Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) was established as RIDA Training Centre in 1956 and upgraded as MARA College in 1965. In 1967, this college became MARA Institute of Technology until 1999 and followed by becoming a university. This university has campuses around Malaysia and one of them is UITM at Tapah, Perak. The first phase of this campus has commenced operations on December 1, 2010, and consists of only 6 units of the Administration Office and Student Residence College.
This university is known for its excellence based on scholarship and academic excellence for leading Bumiputera dynamism in all professional working areas and the vision of bringing the world to be born with competitive, global and ethical graduates. A total of 450 students act as the first batch started studies at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM) Perak, Tapah Campus.
There are also selected courses offered through the Faculty of Science Computer and Mathematics. The existence of a new campus branch worth RM47 million with approximately 11 hectares. There is an economic growth involves local communities and one of the plans is to make UiTM Tapah Campus known as ICT campus (Information and Communication Technology) in view of its importance and current developments emphasized in this area.
From Kuala Lumpur city centre, it takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes to reach Universiti Teknologi Mara Kampus Tapah by using North-South highway and another half an hour from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Kuala Woh Recreational Forest is a riverside jungle park situated in nearby Tapah city. It is a popular campsite and picnic areas for the locals during the weekends and public holidays. This place was officially opened on 27 September 1983 by the late Sultan Idris Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Shah who was the Sultan of Perak at that time. The Sungai Batang Padang River flows from the Jor Dam in the Cameron Highlands and through the town of Tapah before merging with the Sungai Bidor just outside Teluk Intan. In addition, there are facilities such as picnic gazebos, drink and snack stall Hanging Bridge (pedestrian suspension bridge to cross the river), Hot Spring, picnic areas and car park. There is also a multi-purpose Hall which can accommodate up to 150 people, prayer room, changing rooms and toilets. This forest is open from 7 am to 6 pm. The cost to enter this forest reserve for the purpose of the expedition, filming and other activities is RM 10 per person whereas commercial activities such as filming and advertising permit are RM 200 per day.
Lata Iskandar is a waterfall located along the trunk road from Tapah to Cameron Highlands. The waterfall is situated at 25 meters high flowing into the main stream and many visitors come to dip and play with family and friends. Besides the waterfall, there are stalls selling ethnic souvenirs, tribal handicrafts, strange herbs, tropical fruits and even aphrodisiacs. The stalls by the road sell snacks and food such as corns, sausages and sweet potatoes. Soft drinks and mineral water can also be purchased here to quench your thirst and buy some of the craft works done by the "Orang Asli" or the natives of this highlands. Wading pools are safe for families with children and visitors must bring extra clothes and first aid kit for precautions.
