Live like the locals
If you love living like a local and soak yourself in the local ambience entirely without having to slog through the inconvenience of a guesthouse or a low budget hotel, this is your solution in Penang.
It is not a hotel. More like a guesthouse. If you have been to Taiwan or Japan, it's more like the Minshuku there, without the owner staying with you.
Warm reception from the Suitekeeper gives you almost about everything in Penang and answers every of your questions then and later. she is on 24/7 standby on phone to help you and make sure you are safe. Something that even some top class hotels cannot even do.
Food - choices are abundant in the area. We didn't have the chance to savor on the much raved inhouse breakfast because of timing, but the options in the area is good enough.
The strong kopi (local coffee) and Pat Poh Milk from nearby coffeeshop are 2 of the many things which made me yearn for every morning to come earlier.
Exploring for good food never got so exciting.
Fine Food - In the small lanes, fine restaurants sprout out from the most unexpected corners. This, I shall leave it to you explore.
Safety - is never a concern. The area is pretty safe to roam even at night. But of course, due diligence still must exist at all times.
Location - It's just in a small lane behind the all-famous Gee Hiang Bean Paste Cookies. So, if you are looking at buying a lot of them as mementos for friends back home, this will definitely save you a lot of hassle.
Superb food choices till early morning.
Convenience stores nearby.
The good things - Ample power points around the room.
Enormous library of guides and brochures at the living area to help you map out your journey for the rest of the days.
Very sizeable 3rd bed which is good enough for 2 small sized guests. It's converted from a super-single sized sofa bed.
Smoker-friendly courtyard. Ground unit only.
Vast DVDs selection for those tired of walking and just wanted to stay in room.
The bad things - Mosquitoes. Probably sneaked in from the dampen courtyard.
Wet carpet in courtyard. It's been squishy squashy throughout the stay because of its material. With that, I've spotted at least 2 caterpillars, 2 millipedes, 1 centipede, and a handful of mozzies...
Superbly weak and unstable wifi in the room. Quite a strain to have to stay in the humid living area in the middle of the night...all alone....to receive full wifi strength. Because once I get in room and lose the door - kaput.
Toilet with open window facing courtyard. If you are one who cannot use the toilet without total privacy, that's it for you.
No Chinese channel on Cable TV. (not exactly a bad thing....)
No toiletries/toothbrush (not exactly bad too, but do remember to bring your own)
Rainy days - very very bad. Because of the roofing, it gets so noisy for ground unit at night when it rains and it felt like a thousand nails kept pouring onto your roof and the noise just made your inlaw's nagging became music to the ears...
However, in general and overall, I must give credits to the details the developer had put in to convert this local residential from nothing to what it is today. Overall comfort is there. Location and service is one of the best in town.
I pointed out the bad points with hope that it will be better, for I will definitely return to stay and recommend to my friends who are travelling to Penang.
