Very nice stay
Very nice little hotel right in the middle of Little India in Georgetown. The manager, JL, greeted us very warmly and informed us of the area, and various attractions we could visit. Lobby/entrance is ground level, and the rooms are one floor up a flight of stairs. There is a lovely open-air hallway filled with plants and with furniture made from recovered wood from the previous building (before conversion to a hotel). I didn't mind spending time here in the hall at a small table, finishing up some work at the end of the day. The room is nice, and the bed was comfortable. There were a couple of chairs in the first floor of the bedroom, and the toilet and shower, and a single bed. Up a flight of stairs, within the room, is a small open loft with a king bed. It should be noted that the stairs are more steep than a usual staircase, and one should take care, especially when climbing down. The AC worked fine, as did the fans, to keep us cool. The one suggestion I would make is to alter the windows in the room. The original shutters have been retained (I think), with glass panes. This is nice, but the room stays pretty dark unless you open these shutters. You can't keep the windows closed and adjust the angle of the slats on the shutters to let light in. If you want more light, you must open the shutters, letting all the hot air in, and the fumes from vehicles outside. So, I would suggest making an alteration allowing guests to adjust the slats on the shutters to allow more light, without having to open the windows.

A stay with a difference
Fortyfive years ago I visited Penang many times and stayed mainly in Batu Ferringi This time we stayed in Georgetown in quite an amazing motel/mansion. rated so highly by all of us because of the reception, friendliness, novelty and charm. We actually took over the 7 rooms for a family reunion and each room was cool with excellent AC, big wall, TV, fans and a delightful wet room shower with a mezzanine bed if required for 3 per room. Every morning we were taken out to a different breakfast so sampled Malay, Indian, Chinese, and Western. Evenings were an excitement in the restaurants and options for eating . The host PJ could not do enough for all of us and the owner of this converted traditional building Dr Teng came to meet us and was so hospitable that we thought we were celebrities. This is not a 5 star US style mega hotel but if you want a local atmosphere and a memorable stay with hospitality that you will never find in the mega monsters then this is the place - platinum honoured guests might have a culture shock but it was just perfect for our mix of 14 family from 17 to 77- we had 5 days to savour!

Love the hotel in every aspect !!
Stayed here for 2 nights to visit around Penang. The host is so friendly. Breakfast was arranged in different local restaurants per day. Short walk to the Chulia Night Street Market. All rooms are duplex room with max 5 pax in the room. Great choice for group travel.

Delightful find
We stayed here for 3 nights arriving late evening and personally met at the airport. A homely welcome with nutmeg tea and wonderful biscuits by Mr Chang. Who took us for breakfast nearby and provided with insightful routes for exploring the wonders of Georgetown. The owner Dr Teng and former Major of Penang, greated us on our second morning and personally took us to Ayer Ikam to a wonderfully diverse street market and recommendations for typical Chinese breakfast. We later explored the wonderful buddhist temple there and Penang Hill. Rooms and hotel are immaculate and utterly unique. Our 14 yr old daughter delighted with the mezzanine. Orchids line the foyer and the hotel is right in the heart of the historic centre. A fantastic find and highly recommended. Thank you

Fantastic stay!
From the minute we arrived to when we left we were treated like family. The owner, Dr Chang, was kind enough to drive us to an annual festival that we'd have otherwise missed. It was brilliant and we'll never forget that experience! The manager and desk staff were wonderful too. They took us to a new, local restaurant for breakfast every morning. The room was clean, spacious and beautiful. We experienced so much more of Penang thanks to the staff at Palm Mansion and we wouldn't hesitate to return.
