A lot of positives at this property
So at first, I think I was just spoiled because I had just arrived from the Marriott Marquis Doha where the staff and service was absolutely phenomenal.
The check in was ok. There weren't any upgrades available as a platinum which was a little disappointing, but that isn't a guarantee. I was tired after a red-eye flight to Singapore (and then a 2.5 hour crossing via private car to JB) and the first thing I noticed was how ridiculously hard the bed was. I mean like almost sleeping on the floor firm. Bed firmness is a personal preference, but this one wasn't to my liking. (That's why it was so surprising that many others commented on how comfortable it was)
I had the chance to spend some time in the executive lounge and it is very well appointed and comfortable. Also, it's not as crowded as some others can be. They offer many different food options and while they don't have a full open bar like many others have in Asia, they do offer one type of beer, red wine, and white wine. The lounge staff were generally very good - sometimes excellent and sometimes good.
The breakfast downstairs has a lot of offerings, but I didn't find the taste to be up to the level of some other Marriotts that I have been to in Asia. Again, it was perfectly fine, but it's not as good as the Marriott Tokyo or Courtyard HK. I liked the opportunity to eat at the restaurant or the lounge (which had more limited options in the AM as is typically the case).
The gym was very well maintained with TVs that actually worked and the pool was kept extremely clean. The water was immaculately clean and comfortable and there was always an associate nearby to provide a towel or pick something up.
Overall, my 3 days were uneventful (thats a good thing!) and while it took me awhile to get used to the firmness of the bed, the A/C worked amazingly well so I did get some sound sleep. It's very hard to get a room as cool as a generally like it, but this one was one of the best ever - especially considering the tropical climate.
At the end of the day, this hotel provides an outstanding value for what it provides - modern, clean, comfortable accommodations with reliable service, good facilities, and strong wifi. I would stay here again if I had business on the JB side, but I wouldn't consider crossing the border everyday if I wanted to sightsee in Singapore everyday. (Backups can be hours long each way)
