Excellent, simple, friendly.
Centred in the heart of the beautiful Georgetown, Rope Walk Guest House is not what we were used to as a travelling couple as we stayed in a room with bunk beds. This said, the room was clean and the shared bathrooms were spotless and with very good showers. Luckily, the staff were kind and helpful when it came to any questions we had about Penang, directions, transport queries and so on. We could not acquire ferry tickets to Langkawi in time and so they organised another night for us at a cheaper price. Very happy with our stay here and would recommend to any couple or group that are looking for cheap accommodation in Penang for a few days.

Friendly guest house ideal for a cheap and comfortable stay in George Town
Stayed at Rope Walk guest house for two nights when visiting George Town. The accommodation is less than 10mins walk to some of the main attractions in George Town, including the Blue Mansion and Khoi Kongsi. (Both are must see!) It's in an old traditional Chinese style building with open courtyards within the house which was very nice. The rooms are basic but very reasonably priced and acomfortable. We had a basic double room with shared bathroom and found it decent for the price. On the second night a very loud family were put into the two rooms next to us with a toddler that wouldn't settle and the staff gave us keys to a room further away without us even asking, which we very much appreciated. The two guys on reception gave us lots of help and advice on getting around George Town and suggestions on where to eat. Overall, if you're looking for a good place to stay as a base for a couple of nights spending minimal time in your room then this is ideal.

Stylish and cleam
By the looks of the photos this place has had a complete refurbishment recently. Very clean, plenty of toilets and showers, helpful staff. Only issue is the noise - each room has slatted shutters onto either the street or communal areas, although while we were there they were installing glass into the windows facing the street, which will make a big difference. I would stay here again.

Ok but wouldn't return
You basically only have a bed. There is not even a locker for your backpack or your luggage so you have to keep it next to your bed which is not very secure and it makes your already very limited place even smaller. The showers and Toilets are constantly full of moths and don't get cleaned well. The mattress is comfortable but the room extremely noisy. You can hear each footstep and each word from the floor above. There is no breakfast. I didn't feel welcomed by the staff and the atmosphere in general is really cold.

Very good
Very clean and nice place. Comfy common areas, hot and cold filtered drinking water all the time. Hot shower. Smoking area. The only problem were the veery squeky beds but İ think that was the issue for only our room.
