Don't even try
The place is beside an Indian restaurant which was quite a challenge to find because there was no signboard. I stayed in a single room with no window (not even stated on the facilities section), the bed that's uncomfortable for the back, found hairstrands (not mine) on the pillow, bed sheet that's stained, no mirror, no tissue, no hot option for the shower, bathroom that has mold everywhere and the gunk in the toilet bowl and sink, cobwebs and dust (accumulated on the bed and around it. It was noisy and there was a leak from my bathroom. The wifi is very weak. The good points are the nice reception staff and the location. Most of the heritage attractions are walking distance. But then again, there are other hotels, homestay, BnB's that are way better.

Bad Night's Sleep
This place is centrally located, right on Chulia Street in the thick of George Town's backpacker zone. It also has its own bathroom, which is not often the case for this price in George Town. However, location is not enough to make up for the small room (it really was tiny). Worse still was the rock-hard, uncomfortable bed. I am easily a sound sleeper who can even sleep on buses and planes. But this bed was so uncomfortable I had trouble getting to sleep or back to sleep. Sadly, I could not recommend this guesthouse.

Terrible cleanliness!
The location is good and I think that's the only good thing I can say. We paid for one night in a twin room and on first looking at the room, it was ok for the price. Although the TV didn't work and the beds didn't have nice covers, we didn't expect much. However we then in the night had to deal with a mouse in our room! It wasn't that fussed about us being there as it didn't run away, so must come in often... When trying to get the mouse out we saw behind the curtains and edges of the room were thick with dust. No wonder a mouse came in. The bathrooms didn't look like they'd been cleaned in ages either, dirty sinks etc. With quite a few rooms and 3 toilets/3 showers, they need to clean them more often. In the morning around 10am there was also no toilet paper either, it had ran out in every toilet room. We had on first looking at the room paid for an extra night, we ended up cancelling! (Having to pay full price still as you do in most places at short notice). This isn't something we wanted to do as we were travelling on a budget, but I definitely would not recommend this place.

Low price, low quality...unfortunately
We stayed at Penang island for a week. Unfortunately we weren´t able to extend our stay in our previous hostel as weekends are quite busy. So we decided to take cheap double room with shared bathroom for one night. This hostel belongs to the Indian restaurant downstairs which is running non-stop and I guess it´s main business. Reception is small cabinet next to restaurant, the guy with look and English of Snoop Dogg was funny and helpful. If you need towel, they will charge you 5 ringits for each, no deposit, but you pay for them and they let you to choose colour... Rooms are tiny, separated by cartoon walls and if you want electricity including light in your room, you have to switch it on from outside corridor, we didn´t get this logic. Beds are cosy like old sofa after your grandfather from Poland and if you are lucky and you have quite, calm and peaceful neighbours, you can probably fall asleep too. Shared bathroom is a bit challenge as they are not so well maintain, I got locked in toiled for 20 minutes then I managed to reopen door and get out. Some shower cabins is impossible to lock, others are missing shower heads...well, cheap stay, cheap facilities and no one really care. If you need some help, you have to go to restaurant and wait till they get someone responsible. We were happy we stayed ONLY one night. Restaurant is good but as hostel, no thanks.

George Town
we booked a family room as this is the only room type they had with a private bathroom, the room was clean , walls were a little thin but this didn't bother us as the motel itself was quiet. The hosts were pleasant and we did have to leave a deposit for the key which we got when checking out. The motel had a restaurant next door (reviewed) which i wouldn't bother with. Good location , within walking distance to all the street art locations and more.
