No considerations at all
Its 2 in the morning and the lodge keeper was talking loudly with his friends in the so-called lobby. Without consideration that the hotel guests might need a good night sleep after having checked in to a bad hotel room; the wall id cracked. The floor is dirty.the darn wall is so thin and the room is not secured at all. And to recall my check in experience is bad, I need to call the number of the lodge-keeper in order to check in because no one is waiting at the lobby. The tv is from the 80s. The small fridge is not working. And they continue this loud conversation at the lobby until morning. What a bad and terrible experience. The owner should really pay attention if they are really trying to make business. This is just plain stupid and I wonder if even they have a repeat customer at all. Not worth it even if u get the room for free. Its just bad business.

Great value & worth staying - convenient, clean & cheap!
I stayed last year December for 2 nights and the owner was nice - sort of like a one man show for him. I booked a room for two with private bathroom but windowless though not a problem for me. The location is great, just within few minutes walk from Jonker St. and rest popular tourist hot spots but still not in middle of action so it is quiet for sleep/rest. I would love to go return again for my next week but bummer that it is fully booked! Next time again then! Oh but you do have to carry your luggage up to the 2nd floor on a long steep staircases.

Nice old place conveniently located near jonker street
I was looking for a budget place near jonker street, and glad I found this place. Conveniently located in street parallel to jonker street, so can go back to the lodge every time to put your shopping bags or rest and go back to jonker for some more food and shopping! Malacca is not quite taxi friendly so staying near jonker is the best option. Its 5-10 minutes walk to the river (for river cruise) and to the various historical landmark in the old town area such as stadhuis. The outer and interior of the lodge however looks old/shabby compared to the other new hostels on the same street, but maybe the owner wants to preserve the 'vintage' look. Also they are not the same as shown in the official picture, so quite disappointed in that department. But the room is spacious for a solo traveler and bathroom is big and clean. For the price, i got Ac, tv, mini fridge and hot shower that works perfectly well. Bed is clean. The uncle who runs the place was very kind, happily give guidance and travel tips.

Clean, very friendly, great location
Location is excellent - less than a minute from the river and on a road parallel to Jonker Walk so it's quiet but near everything. The owner is incredibly friendly - always offering teas & coffees and giving tips on the local area - he's probably amongst the friendliest hotel owners I've ever met. Room was basic but clean. Aircon was good. Our towels were actually brand new! Hot water shower. Wifi was normal for Malaysia - around 2mbps and normally stable. Worked fine in the room. There was a fridge in the room and a TV (Malay channels). Our only window was an internal one (we knew this when we booked) but it wasn't noisy at all. Room was cleaned after night 2 - and was spotless when we came back (the cleaner - who may have been the owner's wife - even asked if we were happy with it afterwards!) Hotel offers a laundry service - MYR4/kg, fairly standard. Hotel is a great budget choice, would happily stay there again.

Great friendly hotel
The Harmony Lodge near Jonkers in Malacca was one of the bargains of my recent trip to Asia. Great value and Robert who runs it is so helpful I was sorry to leave. Very clean with TV and fridge in the room. It is so close to all the action but easy to sleep at night. Robert is certainly one of the great finds in Malaysia.
