- Backpacking
Nice place. Design lobby bar free breakfast of coffee can cook and make tea. Conveniently there is a place for watching tv. 3rd floor a bit noisy because of wooden steps. A bit away from the red church and jonker street. But enough Jln 7 minutes. In front of someone selling food, wifi a bit slow. Kmr was clean and steady hot water.

Clean - Cosy - Friendly - Quiet.
Yote flashpackers is a pretty small, but a welcoming & cosy place. First of all, this hostel is 5 mins walk away from the city centre & the busy areas. Who makes it a quiet place with everything you need not too far. The guy at the reception has been really friendly. He show me all around the place. I stayed 2 nights in a 4 bed dorm. The room was clean. You got a plug & a light per bed. Air con. & A locker. That's looking like everything have been handmade. And on my opinion, that's looking really nice. The only bad thing i can say about this rooms (And, reading the other reviews, i've seen that i was not the only one) is that the walls are really thin. You can hear everything all around the place. From the people next door, to the people having a drink downstairs... The bathrooms were clean. Working well. There is water heaters for those who want to have a hot shower even with 30° outside. Cosy "living room", were you can lay down in front of a big TV. Basic breakfast. (Coffee/tea - toasts) But in this hostel, it will be prepared for you. The guy at the reception is doing you're coffee & your toasts. First time i've seen that in this sort of hostel. Really good point. It's been a pleasant stay for me. Nice people, quiet place (even with this thin walls). And close to the city centre, that's all i was asking for. :). Will come again.

Great service
The hostel is lovely and clean. Located somewhat 5 minutes walk away from many attractions. There is a nice communal area and the bathrooms are well kept. The best part is the breakfast and with that the service. The staff definitely go above and beyond with regards to making you feel welcome. Would definitely return.

Ok, but would not return
The location of Yote is really good, an easy walk into the centre, Jonker street etc. I was in a 4 bed female dorm and it was average. The bunk beds were quite high up, so would be hard to climb up and down them. No lockers. The walls are thin so I could hear the neighbours muffled conversations, but it was quiet at night so it didn't affect sleep. The toilets were a little messy, and the conjoined laundry area was a bit untidy with people's drying and washing lying in baskets. When I first arrived I asked for some advice on what to see and do, if they had any maps etc. No maps, and the man at reception just told me how to go to the tourist office. When I saw her the owner was very friendly and she gave us some local food to try that she had just brought. All in all it was fine for my 1 night stay, but I wouldn't return

Nothing really flashpacker about it
Booked to stay here for 2 nights but only stayed for 1. Looking up hostels in melacca, there was nothing that really stood out but this one mentioned there was some atmosphere and social space so thought I'd give it a go. To be honest, I'm not sure why they use flashpacker in the name. It insinuates that it offers luxury at budget price or at least offering beyond the amenities you would expect. This did neither. I was booked in to the only ground floor dorm which was so small i felt like i was sleeping in the same bed as the person in the bunk next to me. I was to eventually find out at 1-3am that the room backs on to the place where people might choose to hangout. The wall might as well not be there. You get all the conversation and noise from reception from the room - which was dark and musty. The hostel was passable but I read some reviews saying best hostel they'd ever stayed. I know everyone's experience is different but this hostel doesn't come close for me. It's just ok. Very basic. Location ia decent, but to be honest, after 8pm there's not much to do. You can see Malacca in an afternoon so if I had my time again, would have just done a day trip down from KL.

Budget hostel with clean toilets but small rooms and quiet staff
Pros - Clean toilets and showers with hot water - Free breakfast (bread and jam), coffee and tea - Cool chill area (PS4, Netflix, books and board games) - Wifi available in lobby and rooms Cons - Quiet and reserved staff, seemingly uninterested - Inconsistent pricing (official hostel website is down so have to check other 3rd party booking websites) - 10-15 min walk from main Jonker street area Conclusions Stay here if you are looking for budget (I paid US$4+ per night for a 4-bed mixed room, can't complain) and a location that is slightly off central with a nice local market nearby. However personally I strongly believe what separates a great hostel from the rest is the staff and its guests. Usually when the staff and hosts are excited about receiving guests, this would translate into a fantastic experience for both parties. So there is still some way to go for Yote to achieve that.
