Room was new and clean
However the room design is a bit odd. Bathroom has no door (a curtain), shower has a see through glass (no privacy), and shower area shape makes it too large, wasting space and making the rest of the room too small.
Bed was quite uncomfortable - even if new - and so were the pillows (both me and my wife woke up sore)
Location is central and easy to walk to the old town, but the neighbourhood and area where the hotel actually is (and behind the hotel) made us feel quite unsafe (to the point we took Ubers rather than walking a few times).

We stayed for 2 nights at Axel Bilbao. Room was nice and spacious, especially liked the large shower. Location was convenient just across the bridge from old town. However, the streets right behind the hotel up the hill was sketch and didn’t feel as safe to walk according to taxi driver and we saw some fights break out among locals.

The hotel staff were super nice, especially on reception, always happy to give directions or a recommendation. The room is nice, we had a lovely gesture on one of our birthdays, when chocolates and a free drinks token for the both of us at sky bar was left, what a lovely touch!
Not many sun loungers by the pool but is only a roof terrace to be fair. Only other feedback is that the hanging situation is a smidge impractical if you are a lady and bring lots of dresses. You need to move the tea and coffee station for your clothes to actually hang. That feature is more aesthetic than practical. Otherwise the hotel is lovely, with good facilities and lush location next to the old town.

Location was good- you could walk to the old city very easily. The pool is very small and there are no towels or umbrellas for shade. The bar at night is non existent- no scene or vibe . One sink in bathroom and no counter space for make up etc. bed was clean. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Lovely new hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The only downside was the toilet in the room. There is a gap all around the door so no sound privacy should you need to go to the loo and your partner is in the room.
