Penang is an island located in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Although Penang may be the second smallest state in Malaysia, it is population is highly dense. Penang is divided into two, the mainland which is where Seberang Perai is and the island and it is connected by a 13.4km long bridge, the longest bridge in Malaysia. Penang capital, George Town was the first the first town in Malaya to receive city status by a royal charter granted by Queen Elizabeth II. The term “Penang” comes come the contemporary Malay language Pulau Pinang that means “island of areca nut palm”. Today Penang is known as the Pearl of the Orient and is known as one of the tourist spots in Malaysia.
