—What You Can Expect—

One of the most popular hot spring resorts in the suburbs of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Jozankei Onsen first opened in 1866. It is only about one hour by bus from Sapporo City, with many hot spring hotels in the surrounding area. It has many additional facilities such as hot spring parks and foot baths for day travelers. It is also a great place to take a walk to experience the beauty of nature. Jozankei features many sightseeing spots where you can see images of legendary kappa water sprites and even has "Kappon" mascots around the hot spring area to welcome guests. The big red suspension bridge spans the Toyohira River, from which you can admire picturesque Futami Rock and Kappa Deep.

During your trip, you can enjoy many scenic spots in downtown Otaru, such as Kitaichi Glass, Otaru Music Box Museum, Otaru Canal, and the former Hokkaido Bank Head Office.

Otaru was once a small fishing village and gradually grew into the economic center of Hokkaido thanks to herring fishing. As it developed, it attracted many financial institutions, earning the sobriquet "Wall Street of the North." Today, when you walk into Otaru City, you can still see many old buildings: some are romantic stone European-style structures while others are Showa-era (1926-1989) Japanese-style constructs. These traces of the past tell the romantic and wonderful stories of Otaru over the years and are a major reason why it is often ranked among the top ten cities in Japan for its charm. Although it boasts many sightseeing attractions, today the most famous by far is Otaru Canal.

A pastry factory and chocolate theme park, Shiroi Koibito Park is one of the leading confectionery manufacturers in Sapporo. Since its opening in 1995, it has been a major tourist attraction. Here you can observe the production process of the famous "White Lovers" confectionery. Learn about the four major innovations in chocolate-making during your tour of the park's "Chocotopia House," test your knowledge of chocolate while treating your taste buds to some of the park's delicious creations in "Study Base CACAO POD," then head to the park's collection room to view a variety of rare chocolate-making antiques.
