Hanoi, Vietnam

If Ho Chi Minh City is a loud, energetic person, then Hanoi in the north is its reserved and thought-provoking cousin. Being the capital of Vietnam for almost a thousand years, Hanoi’s cityscape presents a harmonious fusion of cultural and historic monuments, scenic lakes, and impressive skyscrapers. A visit to Hanoi should include Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoan Kiem Lake, and the ever-bustling Old Quarter, a mesh of 36 streets that can satisfy every of your shopping needs. Hanoi is also a foodie heaven, offering many authentic Vietnamese dishes, such as bun cha, pho, and crab spring rolls, either from humble food stalls or romantic restaurants.

Why We Love It

We received mixed opinions ("must see when in Hanoi";"don't bother"and "it's just a puppet show") from people who had seen the show before we booked. We are happy that we saw the show. The fire breathing dragon puppets were a highlight along with musicians and singers. If you are in Hanoi it's worth seeing. The VIP seats can be purchased at the theatre vending machine for VND 200,000 each but you have to buy early to select a good seat. Skip the line is worth the extra.

Halong bay really exceeds my expectation. Although it was a cloudy day when I visited, it was still more beautiful and serene than I imagined. The cruise itself was convenient: the pickup was on time, and everything was organised well. I particularly enjoyed the cave and the bamboo boat ride with the fisherman. If you have only 1 day to get a taste of Halong Bay, I'd recommend this tour

Must go to this place whenever you're in Hanoi. The charming place won't disappoint. Our tour guide is nice but isn't communicating that well with the guests. We were picked up late and had to wait ages for other guests who lingered too long in the pagoda's surrounding to buy fruits and souvenirs since the guide never mentioned what time we should gather.
