The area of today’s zoo in the south of Salzburg City was actually already a wildlife park for the prince-archbishops back in the 15th century. The Hellbrunn estate, including the palace, fountains and zoo, was planned by archbishop Markus Sittikus in 1612 and completed in 1619. Today, Salzburg Zoo is dedicated to providing a modern habitat in which to showcase and protect nature and animal species - always an absolute highlight for all the youngsters.
