Explore Virtual Worlds: Free Video Games You Should Try

With people staying in their homes because of the Enhanced Community Quarantine imposed on a lot of places in the Philippines, everyone seems to be either bingeing on movies and TV shows, baking bread, reading books, or playing video games.

If you don’t have a Nintendo Switch, it may be near impossible to join in on the Animal Crossing party at the moment, but if you just want to pass the time by playing free games on your smartphone, we’ve come up with a list that’s noob-friendly. Check them out:

Fallout Shelter (iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch)

In this game, you are the Overseer of a vault in the middle of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Of course, you don’t live alone—you are joined by dwellers who each have a different set of skills. Your task is to ensure the survival of the dwellers by assigning the right people to the right rooms, so they can help produce electricity, food, and water. Playing a game where all the characters are on lockdown may hit a little too close to home at first, but unlike the real world, you’ll have some semblance of control… and at least you can still go out for quests.

Mario Kart Tour (iOS, Android)

The mobile version of the popular franchise may be much simpler than those in the consoles, but it delivers just the right amount of entertainment. Race as your favorite Mario character and try to get ahead by using power-ups and gain coins so you can level-up your drivers, karts, and gliders. You can even compete with friends and other users from all over the world! Jetsetters may enjoy this version of the game more as it features tours set in cities like New York, Tokyo, Paris, London, and Vancouver.

Pokémon Quest (iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch)

Bummed that you can’t go out and play Pokémon Go? Check out this game, which turns your favorite Pokémon into cubed cuties that you can take with you into expeditions throughout Tumblecube Island. Your main task is to beat wild Pokémon all over the island but you can also head to your base camp to cook dishes that can attract other Pokémon or decorate it to your liking. It’s the ideal chill game for those who want to be the very best but at their own pace.

Sky: Children of the Light (iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch)

The most visually-stunning on this list, this game allows you to explore a magical kingdom by flying. You wake up as one of the children of the light, tasked to explore seven realms to find fallen stars that have gone missing from the magical kingdom. While this game can be played alone, it’s better to team up with friends or other players online. Even if you don’t end up finishing the game, it’s an emotional sight to see you and your friends’ avatars flying across the realms while holding hands, especially since you can’t meet up with them at the moment.
