Renewing a Philippine passport is one of the more straightforward government transactions available, but it still requires the right documents, a confirmed DFA appointment, and a clear understanding of the process.
Whether your current passport is about to expire, has already expired, or you simply want a fresh ten-year validity, this guide covers everything: the complete requirements, the step-by-step process, current fees, DFA office guidance, and the dos and don'ts that make the difference between a smooth appointment and a wasted trip.

The Philippine passport is valid for:
The right time to renew is when your passport has less than six months of remaining validity. Most countries and airlines require your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date.
If international travel is coming up, factor in the renewal processing time of 10 to 15 working days plus optional courier delivery, and book your DFA appointment well ahead of your departure date.
Note: During peak application months (March to June and November to December), both appointment availability and processing times are extended. Earlier is always better.
Find great destinations to visit with your renewed passport by browsing hotels on Traveloka across Asia and beyond.
Prepare all of the following before your DFA appointment. Bring both originals and photocopies of every document, organised in a folder or clear envelope.
All applicants must appear in person at a DFA-NCR Satellite Office or Regional Consular Office on their confirmed appointment date and time. No representative is permitted in your place.
Booked at passport.gov.ph. Required for all applicants except:
Available for download at dfa.gov.ph/download. Print on A4 paper, fill out completely, and sign before your appointment.
PSA-issued in Security Paper, or a certified true copy from the LCR duly authenticated by the PSA. Blurred or unreadable entries require a transcribed certificate. Bring both original and photocopy.
Refer to the current DFA acceptable ID list on the official DFA website. Bring supporting documents to confirm your identity as needed.
The pages to photocopy depend on your passport type:
| Passport Type | Pages to Photocopy |
| Brown passport (issued before May 1, 1995) | Pages 1 to 4 and the last page |
| Green passport (issued after May 1, 1995) | First and last page |
| Machine-readable and ePassport (issued from 2007 and 2016 respectively) | Data page and last page |
Go to passport.gov.ph, the only official and free DFA appointment system. Appointments booked through fixers or third-party services are not legitimate.
If your preferred DFA office is fully booked, check nearby offices or try at different times of day as slots open when other applicants cancel or reschedule.
Pay within 24 hours of confirmation using the reference number provided, via digital wallets or at any authorised payment centre listed on the DFA portal. See the fees table below for the full breakdown.
After payment, you will receive a confirmation email with a PDF containing your completed application form and receipt. Print both on A4 paper and bring them on your appointment day.

| Do | Don't |
| Book as early as possible — Metro Manila slots fill quickly, especially March to June and November to December | Don't use fixers or third-party services — passport.gov.ph is free and the only legitimate system |
| Bring originals and photocopies of every required document | Don't cancel your appointment outright if you need to reschedule — use "Manage Existing Appointment" to avoid forfeiting your paid fee |
| Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time | Don't wear cosmetic contact lenses or glasses during photo capture — these are not permitted in Philippine passport photographs |
| Apply while your passport still has at least six months of validity | Don't rely on informal estimates for processing times — check the DFA website directly, especially during peak months |
| Dress in accordance with DFA guidelines: no sleeveless tops, no open-toed footwear | Don't assume expedited processing speeds up your appointment slot — it only accelerates production after your appointment |
