Fukuoka is the capital city of Fukuoka State, located on the northern shore of the Japanese island Kyushu. It is the most populated city on the island, trailed by Kitakyushu. It is the biggest city and metropolitan region west of Keihanshin. The city was designated on 1 April 1972, by government regulation.
