Talisay, Cebu is a trading area in Metro Cebu and was named after the magtalisay, a tree known to grow in the area. While not a prime tourist destination, Talisay does have some interesting places to visit, especially when you want to get out of Cebu City’s heavy traffic.
From Cebu City, take any form of public transportation (jeepney, bus or taxi) that goes towards the south of the island. Talisay is only less than an hour away from Cebu City – counting the traffic.
As part of Metro Cebu, Talisay is easily to get around with an abundance of taxis in the area.
Talisay is known to be one of the landing sites for Americans during the Second World War. Because of this, the Talisay Landing Site was erected in the honor of Americans who bravely fought against the Japanese. There is also a Liberation Park that pays tribute to both Filipinos and Americans who sacrificed their lives during the War.
Aside from being a historical site, Talisay is also known for protecting several species of crocodiles, birds, and other reptiles. Crocolandia is a family-friendly place to learn about these creatures and understand their importance in the animal kingdom.
There are a few things worth doing in Talisay that may be a little different from other parts of the country. Every year, for example, locals do a reenactment of the landing of the Americans, complete with explosions and mock bullet exchanges. Taking part in other festivals, such as the Inasal Festival – where a roasted pig is dressed in various clothing, or the Halad Festival – in honor of St. Teresa de Avila.
When searching for some good food to eat around Talisay, more often than not you’ll have to venture to Cebu City for restaurants. However, Talisay has a few delicious dining establishments with mouth-watering meals. Redhipon Seafoods & Grill, for example, where you can “make your own” meals with the help of their menu.
Talisay is oozing with bars that are open late into the evening – perfect for bar hopping with the guys and having a good time. Planet Cebu is a crowd favorite, while BettyBoop’s Restobar comes in a close second. Generally, Talisay’s nightlife is pretty much like that of a prosperous city.
Most people will recommend Villa Teresita if you plan to stay in Talisay – others prefer to stay in Cebu City. There are six pools – three kiddie pools and three deeper pools. Prices range from PhP600/night for the dormitory up to PhP 2,200/night for a family of six.
