The hotel is in an excellent location and has an old- time charm. The staff were excellent: very friendly and helpful. The food was very good.

Love hotels like this. The property was stately and quaint. Not for the snobs but so practical and the location is fantastic. Great value, we are looking forward to our next stay.

The only small problem was the number of stairs we had to go up to our room. Need to be very fit. And we are 64 carrying baggage as well, but the beer went down well.

Well it is an Old Pub so dont expect it to be pristine,
It is a Grand old Pub and just leave your ego at the front door and enjoy what this pub has to offer, Cold Beer and good Pub Grub and good conversation.

The room was spacious (we were in grand room 7), had access to a balcony, was clean (though dated) and the bed was extremely comfortable. As the check in is done by bar staff, there wasn’t a lot of help or guidance as to what to do in the area or places to eat. The bistro at the hotel had great food and a great nearby cafe (Xtraction) where we went for breakfast. Whilst there was a kettle and toaster, there were only two coffee mugs and two glasses (which were used to hold the milk packets in the fridge ). No plates or cutlery, besides one teaspoon. There was nothing to wash/dry the dishes with. But whilst spartan, it was comfortable and we’d stay there again (we now know what to bring). It was very close to Newcastle beach.

Staff were great, food and atmosphere at the venue downstairs were good too. The room is very basic, old and in need of maintenance. For the most part, this is reflective in the price, however the bathroom had mould on the ceiling.
