What Guests Say About Their Stay

The location of The Grand Oaks Resort is excellent—nestled right in what feels like a forest park, offering a peaceful and scenic atmosphere. The buildings themselves are full of history and character, and beautifully designed. In autumn, the red leaves climbing the walls create a stunning and memorable view. Inside, the public spaces such as the lounge, dining room, and bar all carry a strong sense of heritage. The corridors are especially charming, combining a tasteful mix of vintage style with modern artistic touches, which makes the whole property feel very engaging and unique. The room was spacious, with a large and very comfortable bed. The bathroom layout was well designed with separate wet and dry areas. Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The interior décor continues the vintage theme, but still feels fresh rather than old-fashioned. The air conditioning was also very comfortable. A small suggestion for improvement would be attention to detail in housekeeping—for example, checking bathroom amenities like shampoo and body wash are fully stocked, and ensuring thorough cleaning of the bathroom floor, sink, and around taps to avoid any trace of mould. This would further elevate an already very enjoyable stay. Overall, we truly enjoyed our time here and would definitely return. The resort is a beautiful place, and its proximity to the city centre—within walking distance—makes it even more convenient.

Hotel itself is an older building but has had some work done. Our deluxe king room with balcony/patio (all ground level rooms) was spacious & clean with large separate bathroom. With nice weather took advantage to sit outside and enjoy. On the Mayday Hills grounds so nice and quiet at night. Rang ahead to check on the bbq and it was ready for us during the stay. The walk back from town is uphill but very manageable. Would recommend.

It was a pleasant surprise to arrive at the facility which is surrounded by magnificent trees, gardens and the historical buildings that Beechworth is famous for. It is only a short walk into the Main St and lake or an easy drive, it was a pleasure to stay here. Although the room was very small it fulfilled my needs as I was a solo traveller

My main issue was reception. I arrived just after 4pm. The property was locked up and there was no one in attendance. I found a contact number on the booking form and got a recorded message. I did get a call back about 10 minutes later and I was given instructions about how to find the entry key so I could let myself in. There were only a few guests so reception was apparently unmaned from 2pm. The staff said that the booking agency had not given them my mobile No so they could not contact me. I dont know why the booking agency did not giove them my contact No. The hotel room was nice and spacious and the surroundings are very nice (grounds of the old mental hospital. No complaints otherwise.

The grounds were lovely, the bar was good when open. Admittedly we stayed on a midweek, off season stay with no staff onsite at night and the bar closed at 7.00 pm, we were the only people using the pool and it was very peaceful, with beautiful sunsets to enjoy with a glass of wine. A quick drive to town to enjoy all Beechworth has to offer. The double room was clean and the bed comfortable but very small, almost central London size, would definitely choose a larger room next time.

For the price we paid, it represented good value, and the staff were particularly friendly and welcoming. That said, the room was quite small by Australian standards, which made it feel a little cramped during our stay. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the pool area is also not especially appealing in appearance, which was a slight disappointment. Overall though, the stay was comfortable and the service from the staff was a real positive.
