Our room smelled mouldy, sheets were stained with old stains and seems not to be changed. However, the location of this hotel was ok.

Different in pictures. Actual room looks really old and dirty. Has a smell too. Lighting was dark. They didn't also provide shampoo even if we asked. Only soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste. But when we first entered the bathroom, there was a chunk of food(?) on the floor which ants were feasting on. Bed linens looked like they weren’t dry cleaned enough. Check in was easy and smooth. Great location too.

About

Siem Reap is the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia visited by millions every year. It is home to the world-famous Angkor Wat temples, traditional Khmer cuisines, luscious jungles, relaxing spas, luxurious hotels, and buzzing pubs. You can spend a week here and barely scratch the surface of what the city has to offer.

Cambodia 750x469

If you want to know more about Cambodia’s history and experience its culture, Siem Reap is the right place to start. Friendly locals, sunny weather, healthy food, and inexpensive trips are the things waiting for you on your visit.

How to Go

From the Siem Reap International Airport, there are taxis, motorcycle taxis, tuk-tuks, and private vans that can transfer you to your accommodation. Tuk-tuks can be booked at the taxi desk at the airport.

If you choose to ride motorcycle taxis, avoid wearing a backpack or putting your luggage behind. Ask the driver to put the bag on the front of the motorcycle to avoid snatchers. Taxis are also a good option to get around the city but they’re a bit pricier compared to the other transportation modes.

Getting Around

Siem Reap is a relatively small city, so it’s easy to get from one tourist spot to another. It’s even possible to travel through towns on foot. Remorks are the Cambodian version of tuk-tuks. They’re easy to get a hold of and are a cheap way to get to main attractions in the region. Motorcycle taxis are also another convenient option to consider for traveling.

One of the recommended things to do in Siem Reap to get around the city is through a cycling tour. This will give you a more intimate interaction with the villages and the people in the area.

Top Things to Do

Siem Reap Angkor Wat

With its rich history and culture, Siem Reap offers many things to do for different types of travelers. Angkor Wat is undeniably the most famous tourist spot in Siem Reap. Organized tours will help you walk around this 208-hectare Buddhist temple. Reserve at least 2 days in your itinerary for this tour alone. Oh, and don’t forget to hire an English-speaking guide to walk you through the temples, so you get an explanation of the rich history behind each one.

Cambodia also has a deep history of war and violence that people don’t want to forget its dangers. A trip to the Cambodia Landmine Museum will teach you about the country’s dark history.

Meanwhile, the Angkor Center for Conservation of Biodiversity is a famous tourist spot in Siem Reap and is a vital wildlife conservation project. The venue will help kids have fun learning about the wild inhabitants of the region. The Banteay Srey Butterfly center is another sanctuary that’s worth visiting.

Nature-lovers shouldn’t miss trekking the rainforests in the region. Riding a dirtbike or an ATV to the hidden waterfalls of Phnom Kulen is one of the most exciting things to do in Siem Reap.

If you’re looking for a thrilling thing to do in Siem Reap, the Flight of the Gibbon is your answer. It features 10 zip lines and 4 sky bridges that you can cross while exploring Cambodia’s jungle. To end your day tour, one of the recommended things to do in Siem Reap is to get a spa at the Lemongrass Garden or foot massage at a fish spa pedicure center.

What to Eat

Thinking of the best meal or dish to try in Siem Reap? The Bai Sach Chrouk is a pork-based dish that’s a staple in local markets and street stalls. It’s an inexpensive meal that will fill your stomach full. For loads of seafood, Fish Amok is a must-try. It is freshwater fish steamed with curry and cooked inside a banana leaf.

Khmer Red Curry

Cambodia also has their versions of other country’s cuisine. The Khmer Red Curry is a milder version of the usual curry you see in Indian and Thai food. The Nom Banh Chok is Cambodia’s version of pho that’s sold cheaply at the local market and by walking street vendors. If you’re game for more exotic flavors, try the gourmet red ants and give your palate a crunch.

Nightlife

It’s impossible to miss the Pub Street in your visit to Siem Reap. Restaurants and bars line up along this lengthy thoroughfare where you can party to your heart’s content. The Angkor Famous Bar, UP2U, YOLO Bar, and the Angkor WHAT? Bar are the top pubs in the area.

For beer pong and billiard competitions, head to X-Bar. If your liquid courage is inviting you to dance, head to Temple Bar and sway your hips to trendy music and flashing lights. For a more upscale drinking session, Picasso Bar and Miss Wong are the top choices in town.

Where to Stay

There’s no other place to experience Vietnam and all its charm, history, and culture than in the Old French Quarter. Siem Reap hotels here are close to cafes, boutiques, and restaurants. The place is perfect if you’re traveling with friends.

Siem Reap hotels in Wat Bo are ideal for families. The place is filled with temples which you can tour during the day. At night, dine in international restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisine. Wat Bo may be a bit far from the city center, but its peaceful neighborhood is a great trade-off after a tiring day tour.

For a luxury stay in Vietnam, there are lush hotels in Siem Reap that are near the Angkor Wat. The Charles de Gaulle Boulevard has 5-star complexes that will let you enjoy the view of the temples in style and extravagance.

Another upscale location to search for hotels in Siem Reap is the National Road 6 area. Its accessibility to the airport and nearby districts makes it an ideal place to stay for families.

For budget travelers and backpackers, Siem Reap hotels in Sok San Road are the best choice. The rooms are inexpensive here and they’re near Pub Street.
