The Abode is very central, surrounded by lovely shops and excellent places to eat . The staff are very pleasant and helpful The room was spacious and very clean ,there was a very good iron and a excellent hairdryer available in the room . There are at least 2 maybe more very comfortable sitting areas available for guests to avail of if weather was not good

Great location - right on the historic city centre and steps away from the cathedral. Excellent, friendly & professional staff. Neat little car park. Enjoyed our stay in the Enviable Double Room (king bed).

All the staff excelled during our stay, all were very friendly, pleasant and polite!!! Although I rate this hotel 5*i think the management keep an eye on condition as I thought areas of the bath were starting to look tired. That said it was really clean, with a good shower and plenty of hot water. A spacious bedroom with large comfortable bed. The room was well appointed, complimented by good towels and robes. Continental Breakfast was ample, and the restaurant was extremely clean as were the bar lobby and corridors. My wife and I never found any fault with the hotel, and although our first stay I’m sure it won’t be our last. For a hotel on Canterbury High Street it is definitely value for money.

Great location and staff. Spacious room but pretty scruffy. I’d stayed in an Abode (Exeter?) years ago and it was a real treat, absolutely lovely. But sadly this felt quite run down. The decor was really naff in the room and bar. 3 star maybe, but definitely not 4. If I stayed again, I’d go for a better room. It could be so nice, really hope it gets the refresh it deserves.

Great location, helpful staff but room was not very clean, bathroom needed work and breakfast was not worth it. Would recommend the lovely nearby cafes as an alternative for breakfast

This hotel is an old facility with old carpet. I’m not a very clean place to put your head down. Would not recommend this place to stay.

The room was spacious. The open plan toilet and shower is an acquired taste beyond me. The staff were attentive when we needed them. We booked B&B, which included a continental breakfast When we went for breakfast we were given a menu card which allowed one hot selection, one glass of fruit juice, and open ended buffet of hot drinks, and cereals. There were no additions e.g dried fruit or seeds for the cereals. There was a bowl of seasonal fruits, which consisted of several Granny Smiths and one orange. Any additions were chargeable: refill of fruit juice £4.95. Extra toast/croissant £5.00 Eggs £5.00 I don’t mind paying extra for a full cooked breakfast when I want one, but I have never stayed in a hotel which operated its breakfast service like a boarding school and rationed food. The waitresses were having to repeatedly tell guests that their choices would cost extra. I think the hotel management need to review this parsimonious approach, as it creates an unnecessary impression. Alternatively, they may choose to continue alienating guests, who have been used to a more traditional approach to continental breakfast in hotels of equal or greater status.

The hotel itself was fine and the staff were lovely. The continental breakfast choice restrictions were bizarre and unnecessary. For instance, getting a fruit dish, you had to pay extra for toast. A broader buffet would be more normal and less confusing. If you stay for one night, it means leaving with a far from great lasting memory.

Great location and friendly staff. The lounge room was lovely. The AC wasn't consistently cold in the night. The bathroom was a little outdated but clean.

It was a unique old hotel with many quirks. The bed was comfy and housecleaning did a great job. My beef was in the lighting and the glass entry to the bathroom, which is very problematic at night when the lights are off. In order to see where you are going a light needs to be on and the light above the closet and under the step were too bright to be left on. So if you do not want to wake your partner it needs to be on or you need to get to the room door to put on the bathroom light. One could easily walk into the glass by accident that is in front of the tub. We were there for three night. You need more storage ( drawers for clothing ). Reception staff was good.

When we booked, it didn’t seem clear that there was only a specific type of room we could book to bring a dog. I was messaged after booking and was asked to pay a bit extra for a different room. When we arrived we also were asked to pay a fee for bringing the dog with us. If you are sensitive to light you will need to bring an eye covering as the room was illuminated by light coming from the hallway and the edges of the curtains. Also, the bed was soft. We had dinner here, which included chicken breast from the “large plates” section of the menu - a lone chicken breast for £20. The staff were kind but overstretched. When we had breakfast, the event took about two hours. We really needed to get going but were waiting for our order. As we had a dog with us, we were informed at breakfast that we couldn’t enter the restaurant area and were asked to sit in the bar, which was unstaffed. Later, someone came to take our order, but we hadn’t seen a menu. When our food arrived, it was the wrong order. We had to go into the restaurant three times to find out where our food was. Luckily I was with my wife, as I don’t know how this could have been done on my own with a dog. Drinks were also self-serve, which would have been impossible if I was alone with my dog. Eventually we got our breakfast after 2 hours and took it straight up to our room as we had to leave.
