Hotels.com verified review

I booked this hotel while on a business trip as I knew I'd be arriving at Leeds Bradford Airport late and wanted somewhere nearby rather than driving back to Manchester tired. On Hotels.com the hotel had a "Very Good" rating and, at £136 for one night, I expected a comfortable stay. The receptionist was friendly, but unfortunately that was the only positive. The room was in poor condition. The carpets were heavily stained, the fridge made a constant loud noise, the bathroom door was badly scratched, and the bathroom blind barely worked despite the bath and toilet being visible from outside. The bed appeared to have only a mattress topper rather than a fitted sheet, and there was a spider's web with three spiders near the foot of the bed. After a seven-hour journey I was left choosing between trying to sleep in the room or driving home. I chose to leave and drive back to Manchester. The following day I checked the hotel's Google reviews, something I wish I'd done beforehand, and found many recent reviews describing the same issues, confirming my experience wasn't an isolated one. I cannot understand how this property justifies charging £136 per night. I would not recommend this hotel, and I don't believe the Hotels.com rating accurately reflects the standard of accommodation.

Worst place with the worst attitude manager. Stayed here before we flew the next day. Spa wasn't open as work was going on. That was fine, however I ran a bath and the water was brown with lots of dirt in. Ran the shower. Exactly the same. Went to reception to be told nothing they could so. Requested a refund as this was unacceptable to be put in a room with no working water. Got £50 pound back. I wasn't happy with this so spoke to the manager the next morning who was very defensive and said the water was usable and I could have used it. He eventually said he would give me a refund as Expedia had lied to me about refusing the refund. Fast forward a few days and he has now decided not to refund me and just lied to get me out of there. Absolutely disgraceful. I hope no one uses this joke of a company. He also said if I post the photos I have taken he will get them removed for slander

Staff seemed to always been in the kitchen, waited ages to sit for dinner, gave up at breakfast and just sat down, someone appeared eventually. Hotel rooms very dated and dark, needs to be modernised. Lovely setting.

The place is quite sweet with the wooden lodge set in woodland. Main building had a nice feel to it. Some parts of the complex need a bit of TLC. But overall good value for money.

The staff are invariably cheerful, helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. Bed was very comfortable, and bathroom facilities good. Housekeeping was inconsistent, and the room was very dusty in the corners; the public areas were also not sparkling clean, but overall the hotel was just what we needed, and location was perfect for us. Great views of the pond and wildlife at breakfast! We will definitely stay again in future.

Staff and breakfast were very good. Stayed for 3 nights, bathroom needs upgrading and for the amount paid expected better, fire alarm went off in the middle of the night on one night, no cold water the next evening and when it did come on it was contaminated, ran the taps for a while but didn't clear all of it and got into eyes when taking a shower which was not pleasant and caused red eye !

Staff were polite and welcoming but hard to spot because none of them were in uniform :/ Cheap plastic flowers everywhere. The room had a weird smell, when you look closer it was dirty, cleaner left dirty cloths in our room. It was nice that we got to play tennis and were provided with free rackets and balls. Jacuzzi looked green :/ The hotel looked tired and like it needed a good deep clean tbh, a shame because the grounds are beautiful and the nature surrounding is really special.

The bed was not very comfortable, a little lumpy and soft. The wifi didn't seem to reach my room and there was a power cut in the morning! The staff are delightful and very helpful so it could just be an unfortunate room location. The place itself is charming.

Chevin House is very handy for Leeds Bradford Airport and is set in lovely woods. It is generally quiet, particularly in the woodland lodges. The rooms are comfortable and have all the necessary amenities. My only criticism is that the food has generally become worse since they were taken over. Everything was a bit salty and the choices of food and wine are limited. It was nicer when there was a big bar to sit in rather than just the restaurant which looks over the lovely pond, but isn't a place to just hang out and have a pint. They have clearly optimised the site for events like weddings. But overall, a nice place to stay and certainly my choice of the ones near the airport.
