It’s a very old hotel and therefore small rooms and no elevator - ours was quite a distance from the reception. We were underwhelmed with the staff and there was no notice there or in the room with the WiFi code. The bar smelled of smoke so we didn’t go in. It was convenient to Reading and near the river, so it worked for us.

Nice enough hotel and decor. Our room at the front was hot and noisy with the traffic, my mum's back room was super quiet and cool. Our shower was too hot and my mum's was too cold. Our bathroom cold tap didnt work. On arrival, EV charging point didn't work which we were relying on, despite the website advertising it. Enquired and simply told doesnt belong to them but not working. Whole place felt like it was in decline rather than on the way up but having said that, for the price, it was nice enough. Lots of character and charm with all we needed. Garden was beautiful. Weekend evening staff were lovely. Breakfast ok, coffee not so much. Few pastries left at 9.15 (finished at 10), asked if restocking, said no because they'd been serving since 7. Helpful with food intolerances. Had the tomahawk steak which was a real 'push the boat out' treat - definitely needed more salad but otherwise incredible and perfectly cooked. Expensive food and drink but very nice. Would book again for one night due to the price but not with high expectations. Aesthetically pleasing stay :)

Expensive for what it is. The room was tired, and other than the location had little else going for it. I eaten at restaurant in past, and that was great but hotel experience was let down.

The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. Excellent location, although the carpark is very small and was fully occupied by the time I arrived. Customers using the hotel restaurant. Public parking is nearby at £1 a night. The room was very clean and well presented, however some of the furniture is rather tired looking. There's a good choice of quality tea, coffee biscuits and bottled water in the room. I'm very happy with my stay. Sadly I had to leave early and missed the breakfast.

I have stayed many times and usually an excellent experience, however this time in the twin room (24) not so good. It is clearly the accessible room and has a door directly to the car park. However this seems to be an internal door and had a horrendous draft. That teamed with the two main radiators in the room either not working at all or barely working led to a rather uncomfortable stay. The staff kindly gave me an electric heater to use which did help. Perhaps not the best room for winter!
