Elmswood Guest House

Stayed at Elmswood Guest House recently. It was a single room without an en-suite, which I was aware of beforehand and was absolutely fine for what I needed. Overall, everything was relatively clean, though there were a couple of details that could have been better.. some mould in the shower and quite a bit of hair next to the side of the bed. Nothing catastrophic, but noticeable. The stay itself was straightforward and did the job. It’s very much a “somewhere to sleep” kind of place rather than somewhere you’d go out of your way to experience. The only slightly frustrating part was the checkout process. I couldn’t find the dropbox for the keys when leaving, so ended up putting them back in the lockbox. The email instructions they send try to be friendly but were a bit unclear and not especially helpful in that moment. All in all, it served its purpose, just with a few small things that could be improved.

A very pleasant stay. Instructions clear and property very central. Would stay again.

Clean room on suite shower opposite a very nice bar, close to local parks and seafront and not to far from the centre there’s a supermarket a few minutes walk

The room had everything you'd need for a short stay. It was clean and comfortable with a great shower. Real milk in the fridge was an unexpected bonus. The area has a good selection of excellent restaurants.

The host was amazing

Awoken in early hours by people banging ion floor(s) followed by lots of shouting. Could have been a domestic or drunken argument but still spoiled nights sleep- went on for ages.

Room was clean on arrival but never cleaned during stay Towels were never changed no breakfast provided more like a self catering room rather than a b and b

A lovely B B with central location. Beautiful sea front walk only 5min walk from property. Owner Nisha kind and welcoming. Will be staying here again on my next visit to South Shields.

Originally booked on another site that said breakfast was available but I cancelled due to finding a cheaper offer and I'm so glad I did as it turns out they do not supply breakfast so I was almost robbed. The stay was lovely bar the people staying upstairs that sounded like a herd of elephants and went to the toilet every 20 minutes till nearly 3am so all you could hear was bang, bang, bang, flush all night. I like that there is no curfew and we were able to have late night out Friday but we made the effort to be as quiet as possible unlike others staying there slamming doors and stomping up and down the stairs. Id likely stay again but maybe not on a weekend if I'm going to lose so much sleep

Clean and tidy. Well placed for my needs.

Immaculate property which was spotless inside. As a woman travelling alone I felt safe, everything I needed was within walking distance plus parking is free outside the guest house. Great restaurants across the road. My room was spotless tastefully decorated with everything I needed I slept so well I left later than intended. Would definitely recommend staying, I’ll definitely stay again.

Basic but what was there was fine.

Lovely guest house, great location close to everything but very quiet. Quality bedding and furniture too. One of the nicest guesthouse’s we have stayed in (and I’ve stayed in lots) definitely recommend this place.

Excellent stay at this, brilliant Guest House. The cleanliness, was of the highest order. The beds & bedding, also , were of good quality, & very comfortable. The décor, was, modern,& stylish. Everything needed, for a comfortable stay. We would definitely recommend, this little Gem, to anyone, thinking of visiting South Shields.

Lovely B&B and friendly owners, although due to the current situation we didn't see much of them. Exceptionally clean and comfortable, with a good shower (always a priority for us). Good location for access to the town centre and sea front. We would definitely stay again.
