I have been travelling for work every week for the last 10 years and used this hotel many times. This time, something went very wrong: the room I was given did not have a desk - a massive problem for business travellers like me. I asked the receptionist to change the room. The receptionist said I had to upgrade and pay extra. I complained how come a 4 star hotel room doesn't have a desk? The receptionist said (patronisingly) "You booked a standard room and standard room does not have a desk in all hotels I have worked in. You should have checked the booking to see if the room would include a desk." I found this remark very offensive - why do guests have to check when booking if a room has every piece of basic furniture? In the end, I paid the extra and got a new room as I was too tired after travelling for a whole day. To make matters worse, the new room still didn't have a desk! So I had to complain again to the receptionist. The receptionist gave me another room, but the key didn't work! The receptionist had to open the new room using his master key and said he would cut a new key and bring it to my room. I waited for 20 minutes - and there was still no sign of the key so I went down to the ground floor and asked another receptionist to ask for my key. Although accidents happen, we pay hotels so that we have no worries. This hotel has failed miserably: I had to worry everything. Go to Radisson or Clayton next door: all their rooms have desks.

Bedroom was dark and overlooked by rest of building. We stayed on first floor but still had 5 flights of stairs to climb. Bed was on the firm side and there weee no spare pillows as my partner sleeps with 3. Hand soap container in bathroom was empty on arrival so good job I had carried own soap. Had to ask cleaner in the morning if she could fill it up. First morning the cooked breakfast was on the cold side (buffet style) getting down there for 8am. 2nd morning we were in there for 7.30. Food a little warmer but not piping hot. Car park very tight to drive up and down levels. When leaving on the last morning, we witnessed a people carrier wedged trying to negotiate a ramp to the next level and not much room to manoeuvre. But for convenience it was a hotel close to Hippodrome but a bit hard to find by sat nav as it took us down Christmas Street onto another which was a cyclist only street on arrival. We had to suss out once we found it an easier way to access it!

Overall ok but needs modernisation. The reception is lovely & gives a bit of a false narrative as when u get to the rooms, they are dated.Attempts gave been made in the bedroom but a shower curtain in a bath is not nice or hygienic. The carpet in the bathroom is grubby- definitely needs flooring. Staff were friendly & helpful & breakfast was ok- but not work £17.50 if you pay on the day. Location of hotel is great as central but is noisy.

The hotel common areas are fine however the state of the bathrooms is terrible. There are no window coverings, smashed panes of glass, chrome areas are rusting and the bath should have been replaced 10 years ago. The parking is a good facility but be aware it is £19 per day. In summary, I would have expected a far better standard from this hotel chain.

Great central location with parking next door in own little multi-storey car park. Car park tight for a large car and lift wasnt working so had to lug cases down and back up flights of stairs to the car. Check in was slow, apparently due to an unfamiliar new computer system. Hotels.com stated that parking was free/included. It isnt, its £19 per 24 hrs. Room tiny (compact double) and as I'd paid more than a friend who'd booked a standard double a couple of weeks earlier, which was much bigger, seemed poor vfm (about £160 per night, no breakfast). I'd booked 4 months ahead. No mattress protector on bed, just a sheet on mattress. There is air con and the room appeared adequately clean but bathroom was a little tired. Adequate facilities and more toiletries are available on request. Room was close to 2 sets of fire doors so there was banging of doors at night. Friends in different rooms experienced noise from other guests. Breakfast - additional £12.50 seemed good vfm and had a reasonable choice of cooked and continental options from the buffet. Front desk staff were a friendly young team.

Room was a good size, clean and ready on time. The room was in good condition but the bathroom was a little worn with a few cosmetic bits missing. The air con was quick to kick in which was much appreciated! All the staff we encountered were very helpful, friendly and professional. Great location for exploring Bristol and 15 minute walk to the station.

The Grand is in a good location and lived up to expectations. However, we were surprised to find the bed had no mattress cover which is not acceptable in today’s standards. Also, there was no face cloth/flannel in the bathroom and the air conditioning did not work which is also disappointing considering the cost of the room (£200)

Air conditioning was broken in the room, led to a very stuffy and uncomfortable night. Breakfast was £17 per person - really not worth the money. Overpriced parking at £17 for 24 hours. Dirty shower tray no mattress protector on bed, yellowed and hard mattress. :(.
