A very pleasant stay of three nights in a Superior Heritage room - we would stay here again. Our charming, quirky upstair room in the roof space, had a very comfortable bed, was well appointed and had good storage. Access was via steep stairs which were absolutely fine if you turned sideways on and held the rail - the quirky ancient charm is all part of the stay. The bedroom door opens into the bathroom with separate side toilet. I specifically selected a room with a bath and so I was very happy with it, but it is worth noting the bath does not come with a shower curtain, so bathing really was the only option. The bedroom’s double aspect windows gave pleasingly good airflow during what was a hot spell and made the room very pleasant indeed. Ventilation for the toilet and bathroom area is via these same windows and was very efficient. Downstairs had a charming little fireplace lobby/sitting room with information leaflets on a dresser. The airy and well run breakfast area / Esme’s tearooms was wonderful. All staff were really friendly, efficient, hardworking, and genuinely interested in their guests and visitors. Of special note was the wonderful Daisy, whom we looked forward to seeing each morning. Daisy gave us some very helpful ideas of places to visit. We also enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea one day, with all food beautifully presented. The cakes were amazing and the tea garden was attractive and spacious. A lovely stay - thank you.

This was disappointing as the hotel was on a very busy junction of two roads and a railway track. The room we had was up some very narrow steep stairs that were hard to navigate. The roof was very low which meant you had to mind you head going into the dated toilet and also getting in and out of the bath was a struggle as again the roof was low and angled. Bed was not the most comfortable. There was a pub right next door which meant it was noisey every night. Rooms smelt damp when the doors to the bathroom were closed overnight. Not one we will return too unfortunately.

We were very disappointed with our stay considering the price paid. The room up in their "loft" was cramped and Im not sure that the access stairs were legal for a hotel. I accept that this is an old property, but the room had lots of cobwebs and was generally quite scruffy. The room was extremely dark, and the different levels caused some issues with stubbing toes on steps etc! No full length mirror and nowhere to put washing things in the bathroom - had to put our things in the bath! Facilities were poor. Staff were a little "brusque". I would not pay the prices charged to stay here again. Location was good, and the main reason why we chose to book this hotel.

Quaint cottage and staff were polite. The room we stayed in was nice and bright. There was a very bad damp problem in the en suite especially above the shower, not just on the ceiling but the shower sealant was all black and the bottom of the shower door had not even been cleaned of all the mould. The shower was very powerful and water hot. Skirting of the bedroom was missing exposing the gap between floor and ceiling. Although there was radiator heating the thermostat was loose and difficult to tell which way to turn it to increase. The room felt warm but the floor, although it looked pretty, was absolutely stone cold. The windows close, paint peeling and look grubby. The curtains were badly hung and dragged on the floor so we’re dirty. There was a wardrobe which had the most ridiculous glass panels stuck to the front doors the type that would be fitting of a circus where the reflection made you look very short and twice as wide. On inside of the wardrobe door were 4 mirror tiles butted together to be a vertical rectangular shape. The bedside cabinets and sideboard have had no protection on the tops and are badly water stained. Bed was fantastically comfy and clean. Kettle was placed under the wall mounted tv!! Breakfast was fabulous, but the small breakfast room leads to outdoors and so when people used the door the cold came in and food cooled. Expensive b&b for what was on offer.

A period property with plenty of character! We stayed in one of the historic rooms which was full of charm. Breakfast was lovely, the gin bar had plenty of choice and we were well looked after by the staff. The hotel has a good choice of restaurants nearby and is in an excellent location for visits to the New Forest.

Really nice venue in an excellent location, very close to train station and bike hire shop, plus local pubs. Friendly staff, and nice breakfast, although they did seem to struggle with poached eggs, they were always overcooked when I, or any of the others in my group ordered them. But I have to say, they did the best scrambled egg I’ve ever had! My only other gripe would be the bathroom in the studio we were staying in, the walls need plastering, some tiles or splash back of some sort fitted around the bath, and the actual bath fitted properly. The side panel is falling out, and the silicone around the bath looks like it was done by a 5 year old!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thatched Cottage. It is close enough to the forest to see the horses and walk through the luscious trees and foliage. It is also close to shops and restaurants. We walked easily from the station. Check in was easy and although we were up a flight of stairs we were helped with the luggage. Perhaps a little more attention could be given to offering assistance early as the paths are a little uneven. The room was delightful with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was pleasant and plentiful

Very quaint and quirky. Do not book a historic room if you have mobility issues. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice. The only downside was shower is a hand held attachment to mixer tap, not a shower over the bath. You had sit in the bath to use but was no problem for a few days. Would stay again.
