Amazing hotel. We checked in late after disappointing Hunters Lodge (what a dump) and this was just £30 more with amazing beautiful room, stunning place, delicious breakfast in the morning - we loved it.

When you arrive at the hotel you appreciate the history that lies within it. The Crown Hotel has a charming appeal ,and it's a traditional English hotel. The reception area is inviting with a large fire place that is historic, and next to it is a very inviting lounge also. There is a lift that is ( supposedly) the oldest in Europe! The bar in in the resturant is very nicely decorated, a good choice of wine, beers and spirit's, if you would like to have a tipple. The rooms are very clean, the bed was very comfortable, with a good night's sleep had. Bathroom compact but was very clean, shower or bath was great with lots of hot water, they provide hair and body wash if you forget yours. Breakfast is buffet style with a good choice and quality of food. The resturant again served very good quality food in the evening. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. There is a Garden area to relax in with enough seating for all, also within the lounges they provide board games, cards, chess should you have time on your hands or while away the time with a night cap ! Definitely recommend a stay at The Crown.

Although the weather has very hot, the Aircon in our room was unable to keep up, and depute being told that it would do, it didn't. There was no way of cooling room, because none of the windows opened. Sadly, the room was unbearably hot, so much so we considered leaving as there were no other rooms available.

We had 3 rooms for 2 nights. The rooms were nice but a little on the smaller side for a double. All the rooms had slightly different arrangement. Two of the rooms had a shower in the bath and for some reason one of the rooms baths didn’t drain well, we informed the hotel but they were unable to sort the problem during the stay. We had a birthday celebration and eat in the hotel. Some of the food was excellent however it was not consistent across the meal. The tuna tartar was poor, 5 of us had it. We felt it was bland with little flavour. The Fish & Chips was nice although the chips were dry. My daughter loved her meal, she had the lamb. It a lovely old hotel and we generally enjoy the decor and travelling in the old lift. We would go back due to its location and generally charm. The staff are very nice although for some reason it doesn’t operate like a well oiled machine!

Beautiful hotel. Our bedroom was on the side of the road on the second floor which did get very noisy at times. Our bedroom was lovely but the bed had a few issues with the topper and mattress not being the best. Making you feel as though you would fall out of the bed. Aircon was good but worked intermittent as it was over working due to heat. Breakfast was lovely but the juices were warm. We had dinner which was nice during our stay. Lift is quirky but great.

The windows at the front of the property do not open so the room was unbearably hot. It allegedly has air conditioning, but it is an old unit, that shows it needs maintenance so it did not work effectively. Staff were mainly helpful, but didn’t take account of particular needs, even though they were advised in advance. Breakfast buffet is very basic.

We had a good stay in a deluxe King Room. There was no a/c or fridge in the room which on such a hot day and night was very much missed. The last time we stayed (some decades ago) the breakfast was freshly cooked to order. Now it is a buffet affair which can never be as good. That said - the quality of the buffet was one of the best we have had. The service at breakfast was also very good. The bacon sausages and eggs were of a high quality.............the coffee however was dreadful..........very bitter. The fresh juices were at room temperature - which on a hot summers day is far from ideal. I don't want ice placed in my fruit juice - but there must be solutions to serving tepid juices that don't involve putting ice in them. Overall, we had a good stay and would definitely consider staying here again. We learnt that some rooms do have a/c so would seek them out in future.

The positives were the airy room and lovely garden. The big negative was the buffet breakfast which they proudly claim to be award-winning. The reality is that for a 4 star hotel, the quality and range of options was extremely poor. Too many short cuts and cost cutting. The veggie options were limitd and not displayed on the tables and there were no extras (eg crushed avocado) even if you were willing to pay a bit extra. There was no fruit yogurt in individual pots and no higher quality healthy brown bread, only a poor version of sliced brown. The fresh fruit was provided as a mixed salad in one small bowl, mainly of grapes with tiny bits of other fruit. We know from our travels over the past few years that an excellent buffet breakfast provides whole slices and halves of fruit such as pineapple, papaya, melon and red grapefruit laid out on containers. The cereal choice was extremely limited and the oak flakes (used for porridge) was too processed and like sawdust.

My room was extremely hot , there were 2 fans whuch did very little to cool it. A mobile aircon unit would have been preferable. I didnt sleep well becayse if the heat My son had upgraded and had aircon, so this needs to be considered. This was after the heatwave, I think if the temps had been 30plus outside the room would have been unuseable...
