So sad. Midland remains in a great location, is a beautiful building and the rooms have amazing views. BUT We stayed in a suite on the top floor with a fantastic view of Morecambe and its bay. Suite is spacious and, like the rest of the hotel, has echos of greatness. The lack of reception should have been a clue! Check in is now at the bar like a budget hotel. The soft product is penny pinching. No bathrobes, no slippers, no ammenities in bathroom. The hot tub is non operational. The tv was not set up, so had to set up manually! There is no restaurant. Just a bar with food ordered at the bar. Evening staff totally uninterested, chatting at bar with friends. Food is average gastro pub fare at 4* prices. Wine list is poor. The Midland Hotel is certainly not a luxury 4* experience but it has a 4* price. Of the 1000's of hotel nights I have experienced around the world, this was by far the most disappointing.

There are 2 sides to this review. Whilst my Wife loved the room, views, and hotel in general as it was on her wish list of visits, I was very disappointed with a number of things during our stay. I’d contacted the hotel explaining this was a special visit for my Wife’s significant birthday. I’d booked their best suite and requested an ice bucket and 2 glasses for the room as I was bringing wine. This wasn’t initially provided and I had to request it again. We then had a problem with the TV not working and having reporting it twice, it was initially fixed by our 2nd evening but was off again the following morning. So we only had use of it for around 1/2 day of out 3 day stay. Whilst this might seem trivial, it’s the small things that make a difference. Which is where I was again disappointed at the hotels lack of acknowledgment that this was a special occasion for us. I wasn’t expecting much, but not even a free drink with our meal in the restaurant or at the bar was offered and I was even going to be charged £25 for an extra 1 & 1/2 hr late check out. Considering I paid near to £500 on accommodation, food and drink over the 3 days, the least I would have expected was for the TV to work and some personal service. I can only finish by saying that as a result of no effort of the hotel my Wife had a lovely Birthday but I won’t be using or recommending the Midland in Morecambe or any other hotels in the chain, which is disappointing as I would have like to visit the Swallow Falls

It’s a tired hotel living off whatever former reputation is used to have. High hotel charges that can not be justified. I feel compelled to write this review as it was such a rubbish experience. The receptionist / staff on duty in the morning at 6am was so unbelievably rude when I simply asked for a cup of coffee before I left the hotel to go to work. I was genuinely shocked at the level of aggression he showed me when I questioned why a hotel that charged me £209 for one night could not provide me with a coffee! He didn’t even care at his poor level of service and laughed it off - he’s a disgrace and never should be working in hospitality. The food is very average pub fare - not hotel Restaurent quality.
