The hotel was pretty average and the staff were unenthusiastic. I phoned in response to a message sent about disabled parking and as a side issue they told me my room was ready for early check-in. When I arrived they then told me the room was not ready but when I questioned this they said they had looked at the wrong room - looks like they are trained to resist early check-in. The food bill has an optional 12.5% service charge/upkeep charge. When examined closer there is 8% for staff and 4.5% for maintenance of the building. An absolute cheek as guest should not be paying extra charges for building maintenance. Moreover, this is pinching the staff tips as a lot of people will sign this off as a service charge without closer examination. You can have this removed and reinstate a service charge for tipping only.

Room 113 unlucky for everyone! The hotel itself is nice. But the room we were given (room 113) was tiny no bigger than 11ft sq. it was tucked away next to the restaurant and I can only assume directly above the either the kitchen or the boiler room! The room was ridiculously hot with no air con and a fan that didn’t work properly! The bed wasn’t even the size of a standard double! But the heat was the real issue it was unbearable (it was only 18 degrees outside)! When we asked the staff at reception they said they didn’t have anymore fans and couldn’t move us. She did bring us a bucket of ice which was helpful for us to pour over ourselves/dip towers in to try and cool us down! To make things worse the water tap wouldn’t go cold and the shower I had at 3am was barely cold!

We had high hopes for staying in a 4 star hotel and paying 4 star prices. We were left incredibly disappointed. Whilst we understand it is an old building, during a heat wave, no air conditioning is not what I would expect for a 4 star hotel. The amenities were SO disappointing. At the very least I would have expected a coffee machine in the room but we were greeted with sachets of Nescafé. We enquired about a 1 hour late check out and were told it would be £20, which seemed disproportionate. Parking facilities were dire. There are allegedly 30 spaces but we couldn’t see them. The positives, the room was very clean and the bedding was lovely. Close to the centre of town. We were just left a little disappointed.

We had a room with no aircon, no windows in 30 degrees heat. We just had a fake window with a wall behind it. The tv signal didn’t work. Informed reception not happy but they said it’s an old building no offer of a better room or any compensation.

Room was clean, not much space between end of bed and wall. Only one chair and no space for small table. However very comfortable and excellent shower, and toilet facilities. Breakfast on 5 th floor. Plenty of tables and food choices excellent. Two lifts, one only 2person capacity, but overall stay very good. Restaurant good food choices and quality. Car parking limited outside and needs to be booked. Very convenient for access to town shops etc. Would stay again.

The room we had was very clean and tidy and was large, BUT we soon discovered it was internal and didn't have a window, although provided with two fans it was still very warm. It would have been nice to be told before hand it didn't have a window, but luckily we were only staying the one night. Breakfast ok, standard buffet. Parking can be a problem as limited number of spaces, but we did get to the hotel earlier enough to get one, otherwise would need to find somewhere on the street.

Position - brilliant right in the centre Parking- tight if you can get it, very limited at £15 a night Lift - Main lift not working so spare in use. This is a 2 person for the whole hotel!!! From your floor there is only a call button to go down!! Breakfast is on the fifth. Rooms - Poor. No space to put anything out. Needs a rethink more storage. Decor and carpets need renewing. No storage in bathroom, Nil,none. Where are you supposed to put any toiletries? No tissues, complimentary “bits”. No magnifying mirror for the ladies makeup. No extractor fan in bathroom so prey weather is good enough to open window. NO AIR CON so when visiting in hot weather, be prepared to sweat. WIFI rubbish, haven’t seen the circle of doom since dial up! Breakfast - Mmmmm where to start. Most of the hot was overdone. Cold is limited with small selection of pastries, fruit with no cheese or meats. Coffee awful. I only drink black coffee and that wasn’t good. Most hotels these days have bean to cup so you can pick the coffee you want
