Beautiful!! This place is close to bus station heading from or to Rovaniemi-Saariselka, and the staff are so friendly!! They also has Aurora’s venue for people who wants to wait for aurora (sadly ours was snowing that time). And about the luggage, you have to carry it by your self with unique sled they have prepared for the guest. The breakfast also are good. The only thing is the room is not warm enough, so we told them and the technician came as soon as we finished our dinner and they increased the heat like what we wanted. Good service!😊

Lapland: A Nordic Dreamscape for the Discerning Filipino Traveller

Lapland, a vast and captivating region in northern Finland, offers an experience unlike any other, beckoning travellers with its unique blend of Arctic wilderness and appealing winter landscapes. For those seeking an escape from the tropical warmth of the Philippines, Lapland presents a range of snow-covered forests, the ethereal dance of the Northern Lights, and the charming allure of Santa Claus Village. It’s a destination that promises adventure, tranquility, and a profound connection with nature, setting it apart from the more urbanised parts of Finland.

The sheer scale of Lapland means that your experience will be shaped by where you choose to base yourself. From the bustling hub of Rovaniemi, the official hometown of Santa Claus, to the more remote and rugged terrains of Enontekiö, Kittilä, Sodankylä, and Inari, each area offers a distinct flavour of the Arctic. Even the coastal city of Kemi provides a different perspective, showcasing Lapland’s diverse geography and the varied ways to embrace its winter magic, from city comforts to wilderness immersion.

With an average starting price of ₱ 2,581.57 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.6 from over 40,000 guests, Lapland presents itself as a surprisingly accessible yet premium international destination. These establishments are more than just places to sleep; they are integral parts of the Lapland adventure, offering comfort and immersion.

Lapland truly caters to a global audience. American travellers often seek the thrill of adventure activities and the unique natural phenomena. Europeans are drawn to its cultural heritage, pristine nature, and the romantic allure of winter. Indian travellers appreciate the connectivity, the diverse culinary experiences, and the range of accommodation options that fit various budgets. While direct travel from Africa might be less common, the allure of the Arctic and its unique offerings can appeal to those seeking extraordinary experiences. Use Traveloka to find cheap hotels — cheap hotels.

Best Areas to Stay in Lapland

Understanding these nuances will help you select a base that best suits your expectations, whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or the chance to meet Santa Claus himself.

Rovaniemi Sub-region

Rovaniemi, often dubbed the "Gateway to Lapland," is the most popular and accessible area, especially for first-time visitors. It's a vibrant city that perfectly blends urban amenities with Arctic experiences. This region is ideal for travellers who want a mix of activities, dining, and comfortable accommodation, with easy access to Santa Claus Village and the Arctic Circle. From Rovaniemi, you can easily access key attractions like the Arktikum Science Centre and Museum, and enjoy winter sports at Ounasvaara. The city is well-connected, with Rovaniemi Airport (RVN) serving as a major gateway. For those looking to explore further, day trips to nearby natural sites are readily available. You can easily book attractions and tours directly from Rovaniemi, making it a convenient base for exploration.

Tunturi-Lappi

Tunturi-Lappi, translating to "Fell Lapland," encompasses some of Finland's most significant mountain and fell areas, including Levi and Ylläs. This region is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly skiers and snowboarders, offering vast ski resorts and extensive cross-country skiing trails. It attracts a more active and adventurous crowd, including many European travellers who appreciate its natural beauty and well-developed winter sports infrastructure.

Key towns like Kittilä and Enontekiö are within this region, with Kittilä Airport (KTT) serving as a primary access point for many visitors. It's a destination for travellers seeking solitude, authentic cultural encounters, and the raw, untamed beauty of the Arctic. Indian and European travellers looking for a deeper connection with nature often gravitate here.

Inari is particularly famous as the cultural heart of the Sami people, offering museums and insights into their unique way of life. The region is also a prime spot for chasing the Northern Lights, with minimal light pollution. Access is typically via Ivalo Airport (IVL), which serves the northernmost parts of Lapland. Activities here focus on nature, such as reindeer sleigh rides, ice fishing, and exploring frozen lakes and forests.

Kemi-Tornio

Located on the coast of the Bothnian Bay, the Kemi-Tornio region offers a different facet of Lapland, blending Arctic experiences with a maritime influence. Kemi is known for its unique attractions like the SnowCastle, built entirely from snow and ice each year, and its role as a port city. This area might appeal to travellers who want to experience Lapland's winter charm but also enjoy coastal scenery and perhaps a slightly more industrial yet charming urban environment.

While not as focused on fells and deep wilderness as other parts of Lapland, Kemi offers its own set of winter activities, including icebreaker cruises on the frozen sea. This area is part of the Tunturi-Lappi region and is served by Kittilä Airport (KTT), though it's a considerable drive from the airport. Visitors can engage in activities like snowmobiling, reindeer herding demonstrations, and exploring the rugged landscapes. It appeals to travellers seeking a genuine, off-the-beaten-path Arctic adventure, far from the more developed tourist centres.

Kittilä

Beyond skiing at Levi, the region offers opportunities for husky sledding, snowshoeing, and exploring the unique Arctic landscape. It’s a place where you can enjoy well-serviced tourist facilities while still being close to the raw beauty of Lapland. The town of Kittilä itself provides essential services and a glimpse into local life.

Sodankylä

Sodankylä is a municipality in Northern Lapland that offers a more authentic and less commercialized Arctic experience. It's a region characterized by vast forests, lakes, and a strong connection to Sami culture. It appeals to travellers looking for a deeper cultural immersion and natural beauty.

While Sodankylä has its own small airport, many visitors arrive via Rovaniemi or Kittilä. The area is known for its scientific research stations, including an observatory, and its role in preserving Sami heritage. Activities here often involve exploring the natural environment, such as hiking in national parks, ice fishing, and enjoying the quiet solitude of the Arctic. It's a destination for the thoughtful traveller seeking genuine experiences.
