Le Grand Hôtel de Valenciennes

The room was clean but in need of an upgrade. Net curtains shabby, torn and heavy curtains were hanging off curtain rail in places. Staircase carpet dirty. Reception and waiting staff were helpful and professional. Dinner was lovely but breakfast disappointing. Breakfast is served until 9.30am. Came down at 9am and hardly any hot food left, not replenish!

Very good breakfast. Good location right outside the train station, just a few minutes walk into the main centre. Really big rooms, good air conditioning and the fridge was useful.

The hotel is very nice and clean. It has a feel of a time gone by. It was very noisy outside on a Saturday night probabaly because it is near the train station

Decor a bit tired but overall the room was clean and bed comfortable.The staff were pleasant and eager to please.Overall,it was good for the price I paid.

The room was clean, breakfast average. However, the room faced the tram and train staition and it was loud therefore till late in the night. The room was soundproof and I did not heard anything from the neighbours' rooms.

For the price the room and facilities were great. The room was large with an adjoining bathroom which had a separate toilet. The bathroom was huge with a double sink. The art deco theme runs through the hotel and it is very beautiful in the bar restaurant area. Food must be good as it appeared to be all locals eating there. Bar very good value for money and the free too up of wine very welcome. Very friendly staff. Close to the train station, ample parking on the side streets adjacent to the hotel. Downsides: I’m a wheelchair user, the ramp was at such an acute angle that it was too dangerous. So I had to get help to get up the few steps. The lift is extremely small and barely fit my wheelchair in, I had to pull up the foot rests and mine is a travel electric chair so it’s compact. So if you’re a wheelchair user I would not recommend this hotel. There was food in the mini fridge that was half eaten. The noise aspect was not the other hotel guests it was people who had left local clubs and decided to stand in the street screaming & shouting from 1am to 4am … we could not sleep but not the fault of the hotel staff. So if you need quiet then this may not be the place for you. The very bizarre carpet in the hallways was very strange and really does cause your eyes to deceive you, I dare anyone to attempt to navigate a straight line on it.

Loved this hotel, right opposite the train station. The staff were friendly and polite. The room was clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was amazing.

Old, dirty hotel. Staff isn't very friendly to anyone who isn't speaking French. Area which is in front of the Train Station isn't very safe either.

This is a dowdy old hotel in the center of a regional back-water. The price of the room is so low that it is hard to imagine the hotel being able to do much in the way of improvements. The room we had, was, by far, the most spacious of our trip, and the bathroom had a full jetted tub that must have worked once in a time. It still worked for just a bath or a shower. The hotel is located near some good restaurants.

Lovely Art Deco style. A little old school but that's what Art deco is...Great and very helpful staff, breakfast not as good as before (2 years ago)

Comfortable clean rooms and friendly staff. Great breakfast. Excellent, well priced meal in the restaurant, the only let down is the wine choice which was limited and overly expensive.

This hotel was much more than expected. We walked in and were greeted promptly regardless of a large number of guests in the lobby leaving for a soccer game. The hotel had maps of transit routes to get to the game. The hotel had a spacious room, a fan in the room and beautiful windows that opened. Over the course of a two week trip to Europe with 8 hotels this was our favourite of the trip. Highly recommend staging here.

Nice stay and well located.

Very bad experience with this hotel. Assumed parking, with charges, would be available "at" the hotel, only metered parking valid for 3 hours. A lot near the Train Station provided 24 hr parking for 12E. Staff were wonderful & helpful. Room, small/dated, no soap in dispenser in shower, no window screens, many mosquitos at night when very, very hot (90+ F). Bar patrons from below our room (Cuba Bar) kept us up until 4 am (bar hours are 8pm-6am). Closed our window and suffocated in the heat. Elevator not working check-out morning. Breakfast very nice. Tram to Womens World Cup excellent/close. Didn't sleep a wink, and exhaused from heat/noise. #neededafan

Hotel was ok, staff was friendly, but the absence of air conditioner was an unpleasant surprise. I can’t imagine sleeping there a week later when temperatures really rose in France.

Nice clean hotel close to the railway station. Staff were very pleasant and spoke excellant English. The attached bar and restaurant was excellent as well.
