The room was incredible and the staff are the most thoughtful. The view is so magical I spend a whole week in their studio name “Contentaita” just admiring the volcanos and the birds around. There’s a kitchen so if you want to cook and just chill in your own space. This is the place.

This was such an amazing experience! From the cleanliness of the room, wonderful staff, delicious foods, breathtaking views, and the overall hospitality, I was hooked! It’s one of the best places to be if you’re looking for a natural environment to observe Mother Nature at her finest. I will definitely be back and would gladly recommend this place over and over again.

This review is for Creativa. We had great time. We had time to unwind and relax before we visited Antigua. Loved that we had coffee, sugar and honey. There was an electric kettle to make te, a microwave and utensils. It gets very hot during the day and very cold at night. There is no AC or a heater but the staff was so accommodating when we requested an extra fan and there were extra banquets. They accept credit cards but bring local currency. There is a restaurant on site but the options are limited, however you can visit Ecolodge restaurant during the day. Would recommend to check with the property for transportation since the place is remote others may overcharge you to take you there. Since you have to open the windows to get some air flowing you may get some bugs, insects and spiders. Cleaning maybe charged separately so keep that in mind and try to keep the place clean and tidy. Overall we loved the place and we would definitely go back. Magali, Suzzely, Manuel, Mariela, Gladis and Juan were amazing and they made sure we had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who made sure we had a great time.

Very secluded for a nice reset and self-made yoga retreat. This was a beautiful spot to sit for hours, watching birds, the sunset, and the volcano in the mornings, and to simply enjoy life in nature. I enjoyed walking down the hill to the earth lodge for food and coffee, and the Italian restaurant was perfect!

Finca El Tambor has potential, but my experience was mixed and at times unsettling. When I arrived, no staff were on site to greet or assist me. I was the only guest staying there, which made the place feel a bit eerie. A kind housekeeper (who didn’t speak English) saw I needed help and went out of his way to assist. He eventually connected me with someone who spoke English, and that person contacted the owner, who was able to confirm my room. To be fair, the owner had messaged me on Expedia with clear directions, but I hadn’t checked my inbox before arriving. That’s on me however, I still feel that someone should have been present to assist guests in person, especially in a remote and unfamiliar area. The next day, I spoke with the owner, who introduced herself by name and gave me her number. She told me I could contact her anytime I needed anything, and also mentioned that she lives on the property, which was somewhat reassuring. The surrounding area is very local, and while it’s peaceful during the day, there was loud music and fireworks at night. The room was comfortable, but keep in mind there is no TV, no AC, no heat, and the Wi-Fi was spotty due to the rainy weather. Since the security cameras run on Wi-Fi, they were likely non-functional during those outages, which made safety feel questionable at times. If you’re on a honeymoon or just want a quiet escape from the city, this could be a peaceful retreat. For solo travelers wanting total solitude, it might work

I had a wonderful experience at Finca El Tambor. It’s located in the middle of nature and is very clean. Suzy is helpful and responsive. The restaurant, Ivanno, serves delicious food, and the owner is a great host. I do wish I had known beforehand about the long walk and the hill leading to the property. Along the way, I also wish there had been more lighting. That said, I really appreciated the flashlight provided in the house—it was very helpful when I arrived late from Antigua or left early for my trip to Lake Atitlán. I highly recommend it.

Finca El Tambor is a truly special place—more of a retreat-style experience away from everything, than a traditional hotel. The absolute highlight was the breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and volcanoes.. The accommodations were cozy, with a very comfortable bed, small kitchen, and even a yoga mat, and welcome bottle of wine which was a nice touch. Just a heads-up: this is more of a glamping experience than a hotel stay, and it’s good to know that going in. It’s located about 20 minutes outside downtown Antigua, and is also very close to Hobbitenango. The drive up is a winding dirt road along the edge of a mountain. It didn’t bother our Uber driver, but it might feel a bit nerve-wracking for those not used to that type of terrain as it is narrow and a bit rugged. The biggest challenge for our group was getting to our accommodations. The paths are STEEP and cobblestone, and definitely NOT suitcase-friendly. One friend in our group, who is not an avid hiker like the other two of us, had a really hard time with the steep walk, and we’d strongly caution that this is not the best choice if you have any mobility issues or cannot navigate steep hills. I will say that our hosts were extremely responsive and did everything possible to support and accommodate us, for which we were very grateful Overall, Finca El Tambor is stunning, peaceful, and unique—but likely best suited for travelers who are comfortable with a more rustic and adventurous setting.

This hotel really should have been advertised as glamping instead. VERY difficult drive / ride to the hotel on a winding dirt road along the edge of the mountain. VERY difficult walk through the property up and down steep cobblestone paths. No heat or AC. The parking is down the road at a local family’s personal house. Breakfast was good but pretty late at 9:00 and the same eggs, plantain, and avocado every day, so some days we skipped breakfast even though it was already paid for. It was absolutely beautiful and extremely worth it for such an affordable price, but one needs to know what they’re getting into. In terms of a hotel, there are some things to be improved, but in terms of glamping, it was great!
