ÖÖD Hekla Horizon

This is a very unique property - glass walls from floor to ceiling on two sides with a beautiful view of the Hekla volcano. We really enjoyed it. The hot tub was great and the sauna was nice as well. Hot water and great water pressure. The house is nicely decorated in a modern style. Lovely setting. Not very much hanging space for clothes. It is remote so just know that you need to bring food for dinner and breakfast. I didn't get the notification so I had to go to the store - about 20-25 minutes away which was fine but try to plan ahead so this doesn't happen to you. Host was responsive to questions. Enjoy!

Very room with a view that takes your breath away! At first we had no idea where to go to check in, we were not aware of the code for the key. We knocked on the staffs door and he told us, I did feel like we were bothering him so we felt bad. Other than that the property is nice. Lesson learned though, this property is 45-60 minutes away from the next town. Bring food, water and a bottle of wine with you!

We chose this hotel specifically because it advertised a private jacuzzi, which was the main reason we paid extra for this room. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, our room was not ready at the posted check-in time, and we had to wait over an hour past check-in before we could enter. When we finally got into the room, it had a very strong odor, even after it had been cleaned. The private jacuzzi that we paid extra for was also not usable. We had to call the staff for help because the cover was strapped down differently than the instructions we were given over the phone. Once staff came to assist and we opened it, it was clear that the jacuzzi did not have adequate water in it and could not be used. When we asked if we could move to another room, we were told that this was the only room available with a jacuzzi, which was the primary feature we had booked the room for. Overall, we paid extra for an amenity that we were unable to use, and the delayed check-in and room conditions made the experience even more frustrating.

Overall, this was a very pretty venue. Unfortunately, due to weather the hot tub was closed, but that wasn’t the main issue. My low rating is because of the lack of communication from the property owners. We only stayed for one night, and my husband accidentally left behind a personal item—a gift from his grandfather that holds great sentimental value. Once we realized it was missing later that day, we immediately contacted the hotel. At first, they confirmed the item had been found and said we could pick it up. Since we couldn’t return in person, I asked if it could be shipped to Reykjavík (where we would be in four days) or alternatively to Canada, and I offered to pay all shipping costs. It took them nine days to respond, and when they finally did, they asked for an address. After that, all communication stopped. Despite multiple follow-ups, we’ve heard nothing further. It has now been almost a month since the item was left behind. I understand returning lost items may not be their responsibility, but a clear “yes” or “no” would have been better than being led on and ignored. The lack of follow-through and communication was very disappointing, especially given the sentimental value of what was lost. I am willing to work with them still in hopes of getitng this item back, but for now I just wanted to be honest about my experience. Just be sure to never leave anything behind.

A really amazing property and possibly my favorite of our week long trip. We were only here one night, but it was perfect. The view was incredible and the space very clean. My only very small and easy to fix complaint was that all the amenities weren’t listed or were unclear. There is nowhere very close to eat or get groceries so we planned to only have a kettle. When we got we had a set up for an electric cook top, pan, and some other things. Also, it wasn’t as clearly listed that we would have access to a shared space with hot tub, large sauna, coffee bar, lounge area. These were all things that made our night better, so I thought they should be more clearly listed. We very much enjoyed our stay and would like to go back some time!

The property is heaven on earth! Ingabirg & her staff Peter, Jacob & Alexandra were terrific! I wish we could've stayed longer than 1 night. Everything you can imagine was available in the oodAle'

Absolutely wonderful! A remote paradise with plenty of privacy. We really enjoyed the lounge with the hot tub/sauna combo. Highly recommended.

A propriedade fica localizada a aproximadamente 30km da estrada 1, e o acesso não é dos mais fáceis em época de neve. O espaço era confortável, mas não havia divisória entre o chuveiro e o resto do banheiro, o que faz com boa parte do piso todo do banheiro fique molhado durante o banho. Foi uma experiência legal, mas não sei se eu retornaria.
