Snæfell - Hotel by Aldan

We enjoyed our one night stay. The hotel is old, which we enjoy. The floors squeak and you can hear guests moving around. The room was small, but worked well for us. The common kitchen space was really nice, with everything you need to prepare your own meals. They even had items for purchase available.

Confusing email about check in but it was easily resolved. Great stay in a great town. Beautiful lake with walking trail

Well, our stay didn’t start off on the right note which was cause for some disappointment off the bat, but we soon overcame that. Our issue was that the hotel does not keep staff in the reception unless you call them to tell them you’re coming. I don’t know about you but if I book a hotel and I don’t show up, I’ll get charged. That is my commitment to the hotel. I would hope that their commitment to me would be that they stay at the reception until their posted closing time on the day of my arrival. We were left to feel that it wasn’t worth their time, in the “off season” to be at the reception when we arrive. To be fair, they did send us a message to have us call before we arrived. We didn’t have phone service so I replied to their message with clear timing on our arrival but clearly that didn’t work. Otherwise, our experience at the hotel was fine. It’s a heritage building with lots of character and a very nice communal kitchen area. The bathroom was small and a little cramped but that might be expected in a building like this. The town was lovely, but not a bite to eat anywhere in the “off season” thankfully the hotel warned us about this so we were able to get a lovely dinner in a neighbouring town.

Excellent room, and we FINALLY got to see the Northern Lights right outside our door and over the water! Absolutely magical!!

The only issue we had, was that the pillows were sort of cushion-sized. Very cozy and quaint, but no good for sleeping. Otherwise -- the property was great. Separately -- during the winter season, you will need to check in to the red building around the corner, and then go back to the hotel. No big deal, just an interesting, unique way to do check in. Heads-up. Enjoy your visit, we had a great visit

The hotel is in an old beautiful building, but very clean and newly renovated on the inside! The view out the window is breathtaking. Super close to the local restaurant and grocery store :)

Clean but very small room on the third floor with no elevator. Be sure to ask what level your room is on before booking. Staff is located in a different building.

Super cute little place. Expensive for what it is though. The room is tiny so even though there were only 2 of us, we were practically on top of each other. That said, they have a wonderful common kitchen area with everything you need if you want to save a bit of money and make your own food. The sitting area in a solarium(?) on the second floor is beautiful.

Nice place to stay, quite, convenient, clean!

The check-in process was very confusing. This hotel has multiple buildings, so you have to visit a central hub. The shared kitchen area was very clean and had great supplies for making dinner. Sadly, this was the worst stay of our trip. The room was hot, even with the windows open. The building is old, which is cool, until you have to sleep and can hear every noise.

Right at the heart of the city, Very convenient. But hard to find the front desk though, because the address in the booking information different with actual address. The hotel is not clean. The staff is nice and helpful.

Lovely cosy room, we enjoyed staying at this property. The owners also run an excellent nearby restaurant.

Nice small rooms

Small double room was accurate, but comfy, warm and great shower. No kettle was a shame. The main restaurant is excellent food, service and ambience.

The operation of the hotel is managed from a local restaurant, no onsite staffing.

In old Post office building. Quaint little town but room was tiny.
