This is a wonderful property situated along the banks of the Otani River in Nikko. It’s a short ride from either of the two train stations in Nikko, and right across the road from the major cultural attractions of the city. I selected one of their premium rooms that included a private rotenburo tub that is on the “balcony” that overlooks the flowing river. It was well worth the investment! The room was hugely spacious, well appointed and clean. The staff was welcoming and extremely gracious from start to finish. The meals (breakfast and dinner are inclusive with the “half board” booking) were outstanding, using seasonal ingredients and renown locally produced items. They are prepared and presented in the classic Japanese style. The location is incredibly convenient. I was able to walk over to the attractions, spend as much time there without rushing, and come back to the room to rest and refresh. The main road of the city is also an easy walk, and is lined with many quaint shops and restaurants. The property is friendly for non-Japanese speakers, and who would like to respectfully experience a the charm and tradition of staying at a Japanese “inn”.

Superior Room: lovely big space, with western style beds and traditional tatami mat lounge area that can be sectioned off by sliding panels. Aircon a little bit iffy, but mostly worked with a bit of fiddling about, supplemented by opening windows a bit. Quiet, even with windows open – just the soothing sound of the river. Lovely bathroom with twin wash basins, and private shower and lovely hot onsen bath on a private balcony. Large key locked safe in room. Comfy beds with two pillows available for each. Elaborate Japanese style dinner and breakfast. Staff were very helpful with some English language skills. Great location close to temples and shrines, and also near a bus stop that goes to Kegon falls and nearby ropeway. Also is only a short distance from the Shinkyo Bridge and the northwest end of town. Coffee machine instructions only in Japanese, and Google Translate of them not entirely helpful – had to look up instructions in English on the interweb and YouTube. Only small criticism: no power outlets by beds to charge your phone.

Amazing Ryokan. Great location. Bridge and shrines are walkable, but there are some hills to reach the shrines. Easy access to bus stop to take you to the falls. The public bath was nice and clean. Staff were very nice and helpful. The food was delicious from breakfast to the dinner. We were happy with the variety and everything was VERY fresh and featured local foods such as the Tochigi beef. The only suggestion is more explanation of what we were eating. It was a very memorable experience and we would highly recommend.

We wanted one night in a ryokan with traditional food where our dietary preferences would be accommodated and this hotel confirmed they could do that. I wish we had some more explanations around each meal and I wish the food came slower as it all felt quite rushed at dinner and we were randomly guessing what sauces went with what parts of the meal and how long to cook things for. The private onsen on our terrace was fantastic along with the beautiful view of the river but I struggled to sleep with the pillow provided on the western style bed.

I arrived to the area with a rental car, and they have an attendant who will come by and guide you to check in and help with luggage as they'll move your car and keep the keys afterwards. Check in was easy, with a minor mixup as they brought me to another room confusing me with another foreigner who would be checking in same day but corrected it quickly. Booked with a half board, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious for both days with nicely presented locally sourced ingredients. Thankfully meals did vary each day, and were still great for the rate I booked. Was located directly in front of the Nikko national park and temples which was great and convenient to reach. The public onsen was pretty nice, but you have to bring the towels from your own room, and it did provide basic grooming amenities. Only complaint was the outdoor bath was not nearly as hot as the one inside which I suppose is excusable given the cold temperature outside. Room was classic Ryokan style with tatami mats. Tv was old, and only offered the local television channels with no option for other streaming services, unless you brought a laptop with HDMI. Otherwise a great stay if you want to see the local Nikko area. Right across from the river so you can hear it well and it's amazing with a great view of the stars in most rooms I think.

Charming ryokan. Onsen on top floor has separate bathing for men and women, lovely way to begin and end the day. The rooms come with half board, so a very special dinner and breakfast filled with Japanese delicacies. Location is convenient, it’s about a 15 minute walk from the tobu Nikko station but you can take the number 1 bus that leaves you a block or so away. Quite convenient to the attractions. Lovely mountainous view with brook from the window.

Hotel experience was awesome. Located near the world heritage site and you can walk through them in a loop in less than 3 hours. Hotel provides a shuttle from the JR station (need to reserve in advance). We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel (excellent food). They take you to your individual dining room and served the set meals that way. Didn't like how checkout was at 10am. Wish it was at 11am and it would've made the logistic much easier

Stunning ryokan. We stayed for one night, and had kaiseki traditional meals for dinner and for breakfast, which we loved! The view from the windows of the nearby river and mountains is absolutely breathtaking. Sleeping on a futon on the floor took some getting used to, but it's part of the Ryokan experience! We also enjoyed the private hot spring bath in our room. Very close walk to the start of Tosho-gu shrine, which you definitely can't miss.
