Finding an hotel in Kyoto in the Sakura season is challenging, besides expensive. The Reiah Hotel at Otsu turned out a great option, is not just nice and comfortable, it also has a good price and is only a block away from the JR Station, it takes like 20 mins to get to the Kyoto Station.

A comfortable stay near Lake Biwa - the largest in Japan. A bit far from Kyoto, but easily accessible by train (JR). Very close to JR and Keihan stations. McDonalds is close at hand for those who wnat a change from the excellent Japanese cuisine. Reasonably priced even in busy Sakura season. Staff impresses with highly polite interaction.

The hotel is just a 2-minute walk from the Ishiyama train station. And subsequently just 15 minutes away from the main Kyoto station. Very convenient for travelers on the go. Truly good value for money

Small room though for the 2 of us. Must pay to get English movies and channel which was not I expected. Can be quite noisy as close to road traffic junction beeping when pedestrian crossed. Breakfast timing was too short, should extend till 11am. Not much facilities to choose from. Good for only room. Price was a bit on the high side without breakfast!

If it were not for the hotel staff which was very helpful, kind and respectful, I would have given it a zero star. The owner of this hotel needs to put some money into this disaster: rooms the size of a small van, walls splattered with who knows what and port-a-potty bathrooms in a closet. And 15 mins away by train from dntwn Kyoto. I selected this based on the reviews. Be careful they are misleading. I dont want to see the staff hurt but I hope they find better jobs because I cant recommend this hotel.

I had reserved two double rooms but the room size is not the same. Luckily, one of the rooms is quite spacious. Close to Ishiyama station and it only takes about 20 mins to Kyoto by train.

Although the location is not good enough for visit Kyoto, but I like here. Everyday need take JR about 15 of 20 mins from Ishiyama to Kyoto, but I like here to stay. The room is big enough to stay 2 person. Even check in time is 3PM,but when we arrive only 1:30, the staff still let us check in, and check out is 10AM. It only 5 mins walking from Ishyama JR Station, and many food around.

This hotel is very conveniently located close to Ishiyama station, which is on a main line to Kyoto and further to Osaka and Kobe. Beautiful lake Biwa and the Seta river are also nearby, as well as various sites of historical or cultural interest. Like most hotels in Japan, space is more limited as compared to many other countries so the room seems small by Western standards but is relatively good in comparison with other Japanese hotels of a similar price. There is free internet access and a kettle for making your own hot drinks, besides breakfast being included too. The breakfast offers both Oriental and Western style foods, although the selection is limited (which is understandable given the size of the hotel). If you wonder (as I did) why a cuckoo is calling repeatedly in the morning, the answer is found by looking out the window and realizing that the sound comes from a nearby pedestrian crossing whenever people use it to cross the road! The hotel staff were extremely helpful in answering my questions about the local area, and other topics, and they provided a map of the local area on which they marked the locations of various places to eat in the vicinity. In general, it was a very nice hotel.

Good cheap accomodation. Excellent value for money with breakfast included. Only 15 mins by train to Kyoto. One drawback is the restaurant is too small for the number of guests the hotel can accomodate so get in early for breakfast if you want to avoid the queues.
