Toyoko Inn Kobe Sannomiya-eki Higashi

Room was nice and the free breakfast was surprisingly good, but I cannot get past being made to pay for to access my room one hour early. This is the first time I've ever been made to pay for a early check-in at any hotel and it just left an immediate negative impression that lasted throughout the trip. As well, why would you offer different check-in in times for different customers. 3PM is the regular time for checking in at most hotels for Japan, but here it's at 4pm? Why? It just creates confusion, even the bloke checking me in didn't realise until he nearly handed me the key. Definitely won't be looking to book this chain unless they're no other reason option anytime soon

Friendly staff

The staff were incredibly helpful, they made such a difference for our trip. The hotel is an easy walk to Ropeway and train station. Close to combini etc.

Nothing to complain.

The front counter staff were very helpful but the mattress on the bed was like you were sleeping on the box spring its almost like they forgot to put the mattress on it

It's fine.

Toyoko was my go-to for inexpensive accommodations. It’s still excellent for everything except the bed. You’re basically sleeping on a thin mattress pad that is set on top of a box spring. Sadly, my back can’t take that the older I’ve become. Enjoy the savings, young ones, you can’t beat this chain for the value and free breakfast!

I didn't realize the property was so far from Sannomiya station and we had to walk that far with my knee hurting already. Next time we need to get a closer place.

It's safe, quite and convenient place.

There is no more option to use a hard and thick pillow, I didn't sleep all the nights properly and even i got neck pain due to very hard pillow and no extra blanket as well. You may off or on AC as per your feel.

We loved our stay here. It is peaceful, with a calm, beautiful Japanese aesthetic. It was very clean. I loved the garden and screen doors. The owner was quick to reply to my messages. We were able to leave our luggage in the building before check in, which was wonderful so we didn’t have to carry around luggage. We were able to walk from the property to Gion district, Chion-In, Philosophers Path, and Nishiki Market. It rained one day and the house had umbrellas for us. It was also conveniently close to train stations and bus stops. Thank you!!!!!

The place was near the river where there were lots of beautiful cherry blossoms & locals enjoying Hanami. But restaurants were a little far away & the beds were a little stiff.

Loved the breakfast!

Clean room and no smell in smoking room. Daily essentials were not provided in the room but available at reception. However, there was no instruction about it from staff.

Wonderful service from the front desk. Easy check in, made food recommendations, held luggage behind the desk, and organized taxi cabs for me. Very satisfied

The check in was not until 16.00 and no exceptions. Only western breakfast item was bread and that was limited. The room was big so that was good.

This property is FAR from the Sannomiya train station and HARD to find on foot. Upon checking in, we were VERY dismayed to find NEITHER of the two male reception staff spoke ANY English and could NOT answer ANY of our questions. It was a massive goat-rope from the start. The "Japanese breakfast" was just that, leaving us with rolls and water to eat for breakfast. The room was smallish as we expected and clean. The next morning was the same as the night before at check in with the SAME non-English staff member behind the desk. We ended up taking a taxi to the cruise port because he was unable to direct us to the monorail that goes there. Prior to arriving there (2 months actually), I had advised them we needed late checkout (11am versus their 10am time) only to find they do NOT answer emails. So, we had to pay extra for just one hour. The only positive comment I can proffer is they had free shaving razors in the lobby. Would NEVER stay there again.

I enjoyed my stay. I only wish in breakfast they can introduce some more bread and butter for international tourists,
