San Karlu Hotel

Overall I would say the hotel was good. The room size was medium. A bit tight to spread the suitcases. There was a small table with a chair. It can be used to as a dressing table bit too small for two people to sit and eat. There was a wardrobe with a safe. A small refrigerator, kettle, tea, coffee etc.a tv. Iron wand iron table was provided on request. A complementary jug of water was provided every day. Room had a very small window. The room we booked was meant to have a city view but didn’t. When enquired why we weren’t given the advertised/ booked room we were told a room with city view doesn’t exist. The entrance of the hotel was accessed after going down a stretch of stairs , with heavy suitcases in can be an issue. While Ordering food the delivery people were not able to easily locate the entrance. The bathroom was stunning and the fixtures were of high quality. The mirror was lovely. They provided handwash, body wash and shampoo/ conditioner was combined, there were bathrobes and slippers. The AC was centralized which we couldn’t control so had to ask for a fan as it was too hot in the hotel in March even though the highest temperature outside was 16 degree celcius. Food was very tasty. Variety was limited but the taste of the food compensated for it. Staff were very helpful. The only downside for us was the location of the hotel , the streets were narrow and too steep.

Great hotel in a quiet part of Valletta, good location. Excellent breakfast

Really liked our stay. Staff were all super friendly and lovely - from the front desk to the restaurant. Very helpful with recommendations. Room was cleaned very well each day. Location was good - very walkable to everything in Valletta. Manager was super helpful too and kindly moved us to a larger room when it became available.

Great communication pre-stay! Fantastic staff throughout the hotel. Friendly and helpful 24 hour reception, wonderful greetings and always making sure everything was making your holiday pleasant. Every area was sparkling clean and the rooms were superb. The free morning breakfast buffet was a great way to start your day, fresh sliced fruits, local pastries, hot breakfast as well. Thank you all for making our stay in Valletta extra special.

There is no air conditioning in the bedrooms. The hotel states it has air conditioning and a swimming pool, neither was true. The hotel was set on heating mode during the entirety of the stay and the rooms were far too hot as a result. The hotel staff offered a fan for the room. The swimming pool was not open during the entire stay. Nice location and a decent breakfast on offer.

Loved everything about this hotel: great staff, interesting layout and rooms, super quiet location, dramatic rooftop deck and we really appreciated the assistance of Patricia on the desk! We had a sudden need for a hotel for two nights and couldn’t be happier we found this one.

Clean, courteous and excellent breakfast

Fantastic small hotel, away from the crowds but well within easy reach of everything Valetta has to offer. Rooms were modern, well appointed, spotless with 5* amenities. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good/just what was needed. We had a studio with balcony and hot tub...but the room was small and certainly not a studio. My parents double room was probably more spacious. This is why I have only given 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Careful if you use the car service for pickup...we were late to request this and the car that collected us must have been the oldest, dirtiest car Valetta had to offer! BOLT/UBER is easy and a safer and more reasonably priced bet.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the San Karlu Hotel. The building itself was in a fantastic location, easily accessible to sights and restaurants, and moreover characterful and kept spotlessly clean. Well appointed room and the breakfast was outstanding. Last but not least, all the team of staff were friendly and welcoming - thank you! We hope to return!

Very central to valletta for shoping, histotrical sites and going on excursions was very convenient. Really suited me a lone traveller. Stayed 4 nights but wish I could be there longer.

We were very impressed how professional, helpful, courteous and friendly the staff are. The hotel itself was spotless, there wasn't one area that was not up to a high standard. Our bedroom, while not the biggest, was very clean, the bed was very comfortable, terrific shower and in-room tea & coffee were supplied daily as were fresh towels. The breakfast was included and it was excellent. A wide range of food, hot drinks and fruit juices were on offer. The hotel has a rooftop bar, sun bathing area and a small pool. Its a great suntrap up there. The hotel is situated at the heart of Valletta. It is a 10min walk from most of the major attractions, restaurants and bars in rhe city centre. The only thing I would tell people to consider is that to walk from the hotel to the main area in Valletta is up a steep hill.If you are a little infirm or unsteady walking uphill, this hotel may not be for you but my wife and I are in our 60s and managed it easily. Taking everything into consideration, I would highly recommend The San Karlu for a stay in Malta.

Outside stairs were tiring to walk up but overall experience was enjoyable and satisfying.

Pool is smaller than expected.
