What Guests Say About Their Stay

We loved our stay at Casa Kaan. Each unit is surrounded by tropical plants and mostly the only sounds one hears are the birds and howler monkeys in the evening and in the morning. We heard the howler monkeys and saw a lot of birds, which is exactly the experience we wanted. The unit we were in was excellent with a good bed. The staff was friendly and helpful. We booked a tour to the ancient Mayan site of Calakmul through the hotel and it was incredible. The breakfasts were good and the restaurant serves up a limited, but delicious menu. We would definitely stay here again.

The staff was excellent and friendly and our casita (Colibri) was spotless. We stayed 4 nights here as our base to explore Mayan ruins as well as flora and fauna in the Calakmul Biosphere region. We’re happy we did. The food was great and they will prepare a nice box lunch if requested.

This property was very quiet, close to Kalakmal and close to Becan ruins. We took a tour to Kalakmal from the property. The property was clean and very affordable.

Everything is lovely about this location, the staff, the food, the location, the suite itself. The only minor thing to keep in mind will be the fact that there will be bugs crawling around the area, since you are in the middle of the jungle. They give you a bug spray but it doesn't keep them away for long. Not a complaint at all, just a note for people with bug phobia to keep in mind. Otherwise I will definitely go back.
Also please note that Calakmul is current closed on Monday's, so if thats the purpose of you trip. Keep it in mind.

Casa Kaan is amazing, a truly relaxing and peaceful oasis and perfect access to Calakmul and other activities in the area. Our house was clean and comfortable and their restaurant is excellent as well. So glad we stayed here instead of chaotic Xpujil, highly recommend!!

The biggest issue was with the shower. The water was cold, and the pressure was so low that it was just dribbling out of the showerhead. Showering was difficult.
Also, our room had many bugs (mosquitoes, grasshoppers, etc.). I let the front desk know, but they suggested we deal with it ourselves, which was a bit surprising. The worst part was the front desk started insulting us in Spanish after our requests (I presume they thought we didn’t understand Spanish).
I would not recommend this hotel.

Absolutely wonderful!! We saw so many birds in the property, and the access to Calakmul and the surrounding biosphere was fantastic. Restaurant was great, rooms were sparklingly clean and very comfortable. Highly recommended! Bring long sleeves and pants and insect repellent if you are there in the rainy season - mosquitoes were horrendous, but that is to be expected in the jungle.

We loved our stay at Casa Kaan! It's very quiet with quite a bit of distance between each cabin. Ours had a porch with comfy chairs and a hammock. We had a full kitchen and the bedroom and living room was very comfortable and spacious. It was an easy walk down to the office/restaurant which served a delicious breakfast and dinners. The staff was very friendly and informative as to the various sites in the area. We will definitely be back!

We stayed for 2 nights in Casa Zapote. It's the "tiny house" concept. The exterior is nice as it's literally in the woods. But the interior is a big disappointment. Facilities are basic, and clearly not designed for comfort or charm. The biggest problem was the unbearable smell of sewage due to the typical poor plumbing job coming from the bathroom. We kept the bathroom door closed the entire time, and dread having to use it. We brushed our teeth at the kitchen's sink to avoid the bathroom. The kitchen was greasy and not clean. It's nice that the cook made our breakfasts on site, but we didn't enjoy the food because of the unsanitary kitchen. The floor and table tops were very dusty. Due to Covid, our check in was contactless. The message on the door instructed us to use "the phone on the table" to communicate with Casa Kaan's staff when we arrived, but there was no phone. Due to the location, our own cell phones had no signal. We used wifi, which was fortunately fast, to text with the staff, who was nice and responsive. Given the location and facilities, the rate is much too high. But to visit Calakmul, other local hotels in Xpujil appeared to be worse. You may want to do more research for better alternative.

The small bungalows are the perfect spot for a break while exploring the nearby Rio Bec ruins. The separate buildings give a feeling of privacy. The grounds are well kept and full of humming birds as well. This is always one of my go to spots when in the area. Staff and management are very professional and the breakfast is always very good.
