Adrian at the front desk was exceptionally helpful and friendly! He got us a guide for Chichen Itza the evening before spring equinox, and arranged an early breakfast on our departure day. The grounds are really lovely, next time we will book a bird watching guide!

Prime location, beautiful spaces, helpful staff, and comfortable mattress. Spa services unique and fulfilling, food delicious and not overpriced. Overall would stay again. What they don’t tell you up front is that you can’t bring any outside food or beverages, and this includes bottled water and leftovers from restaurants. I understand they want you to get drinks from the bar and food from the restaurant, and all their tap water is drinkable. However, there’s a small fridge in the room and you can’t even cool down water to take on your day trips off the property. Luckily, they sell large bottles for only slightly more than the grocery store and we convinced them to freeze the water we bought from them in their freezer so that it stays cold longer during the hot and humid day.

The setting is genuinely remarkable — colonial architecture wrapped in dense jungle gardens, with a beautiful pool and staff attentive enough to pull you aside and show you a nesting owl. That kind of place-specific magic is hard to manufacture. But the experience has real rough edges. The rooms feel dated relative to the price point, and the walls are thin enough that you'll know your neighbors intimately. More frustrating: several sources still describe direct access to the Chichen Itza archaeological zone, which no longer exists — worth knowing before you book. Small operational failures compounded this: taxis requested but not followed through on, and notices about outside food and drink posted with a tone that doesn't match a property at this price tier. The restaurant leans expensive, particularly for wine, which matters more here than it would in town given how far you are from alternatives. The birdwatching program looks excellent, but was booked for the time that worked for us. Book early or confirm availability on arrival. Thin walls, but rooms are spotlessly clean. If the grounds and atmosphere are your priority, you'll find them here. Come with adjusted expectations on the rest.

Every person (and one friendly dog named Rocky) at Hacienda Chichen-Itza is helpful! From an early check-in, to the front desk manager who made sure we had a lovely table for two during our one-night stay, to the servers, we had exceptional service. The pool is Olympic length I think, and great for lap swimming or just floating under the palm trees. The setting is unique and peaceful. Come to see the Mayan ruins; stay to enjoy being pampered.

What a lovely lovely place, it really takes you back to old school colonial architecture and living. The hotel has developed a wonderful eco friendly hotel with a beautiful garden and pool that should be enjoyed. Food was wonderful and so nice to see that they produce as much of their own food as they can and where they’re unable to, they source from the local community. Our only comment would be that if you were staying for more than one night, the beds are small for 2 so as a family it’d be worth considering 2 rooms but it really didn’t detract from our stay.
