I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Alcatraz, everyone was very accommodating and the room was spacious and clean. I had the privilege of being the only guest for most of my stay and it was incredible. I was there for whale watching and every night before I finished dinner I was asked what time I wanted to have breakfast to best fit my schedule. I enjoyed the food and drinks that the restaurant offered very much, and the courtyard was an incredible dining space. Everyone I meet at the hotel was very friendly and egar to ensure my stay was enjoyable. I would absolutely return to Hotel Alcatraz and recommend it to anyone going to San Carlos.

I hate to give a poor review here, because the proprietor was so incredibly nice, and she prepared a lovely breakfast the two mornings we were there and arranged for a whale tour. However, our room had no hot water. When we brought it to her attention, she struggled to find us a room with hot water to move us to. She literally turned on the water in about 10 rooms before she moved us to a new room on day two. This whole ordeal took an hour. And this room only produced warm water - with the cold tap turned off. And that warm water came at a trickle, I did not attempt to wash my hair, fearing I would never be able to rinse out the shampoo. The property is old, so I don’t see an easy fix for this problem. The double bed was tiny to share. On the plus side, the room was clean and the shared patio was nice. If a warm shower is important to you, stay elsewhere.

Not terrible, but nothing special. Rooms were old and run down. Bathroom had no mirror or any place to hang towels. Also no place in room to dry things. Only one table in room and it was all the way in the corner. Public bathroom showers did not work. Breakfast was decent and owner was nice.

Maria is a charming proprietor with wonderful suggestions. The cook made yummy meals. We loved staying there before and after our whale watching tour. Although we went with another outfit that we met last year, the Hotel Alcatraz also offers tours. Magdalena Bay is a wonderful location for watching Friendly Whales.

Stayed 1 night for whale watching. Place is unassuming from the outside but the covered courtyard/ dining area charming and comfortable, hostess and cook very friendly and helpful. Our unit had 2 enormous king beds and was very spacious and clean. Breakfast was large and the eggs made to order - fabulous for breakfast to be included. We parked on the street just outside and it seemed safe enough. Our friends stayed in a unit across the street that seemed like the driveway was still under construction (it wasn't as charming as staying in the main area). We love our time there and would return.

Defenitely felt like we had all the comforts of The Infamous Alcatraz. The room we were first assigned upon arrival had the bathrom flooded from a leak on the toilet supply line. There was a big kitchen pan under it that had already overfilled and the floor had about a half inch of water. We were told they were supposed to have fixed earlier that day. The room we were moved to had the same size bed. Reserved and paid for a Queen but the beds are really Double sized (matrimonial). The bed is a 4" mattress on a concrete platform. No hot water in the shower, they said it was because the hotel was full. Toilet roll holder was broken The included WiFi not reachable from the room. Mosquito screen on bathroom window full of holes and room was filled with mosquitos. So we sladdered on replellent that I luckly remenbered had some in my shaving kit. Did not sleep much Won't be going back there It was clean, felt safe, and the included BF was good.

Nice hotel in Puerto San Carlos. The owners daughter, maria, was very welcoming and helpful during our entire stay. She really knows the area as well as other locations in Baja California. She didn't hesitate to recommend other restaurants and bars in San carlos. Don't hesitate to give her a call if you have other questions. A relative, who works with the hotel, is Danny who can help you with a whale watching reservation.
