What Guests Say About Their Stay

The boutique resort is located on miles of solitary beachfront which helps to disconnect. The grounds are well kept and the pool is incredible. The staff was courteous and attentive. Leti, the manager, was very nice and arranged all of our excursions and transportation. Food was varied with several dining options. The crashing waves added to the drama and the homes along the beach adjacent to the hotel are spectacular.

Our stay at Samora was truly an experience of a lifetime! I use the word experience intentionally because Samora is no ordinary hotel. Imagine a modern beach mansion on a private playa with a full-time staff looking after your every need. If that isn’t enough, imagine that every inch of the house should be considered “art” and that every piece of the furniture was imported from all over the world. Still not enough? Now imagine a private chef that cooks all of your meals to order at reasonable prices. I’m not exaggerating. Samora is an amazing find even for folks accustomed to luxury travel. I spent 4 days here with my brother and will be going back as soon as I can with other family and friends. The hotel was “full” for a portion of my stay but still allowed for nearly total privacy if that is what you desire. We had a really special time and also ended up enjoying the company of the other guests. Samora offers incredible rooms, a 40m oceanfront pool, professional staff, great food, and even a well-behaved dog named “Dream (Sueño)” whose name comes from the fact that Samora is the lifelong dream of the owner Sammy. This is his dream home and he spared no expense. Speaking of Sammy...if he’s around during your stay (and he often is), you are in for a real treat! This is likely the longest review I’ve ever written and that is because this is one of the most special places I’ve ever been and I hope that others will choose to experience it too! See you at Samora!

We had a great 3 night stay at was formerly known as Amalys and now known as Samora. The name changed occured between the time we booked and arrival so caused some confusion, taxi drivers still knew the house as Amalys. The property which is really a large home with a main house, open air family room and kitchen and a number of bungalows around the pool was beautiful. It took us a little while to comprehend we really were staying at someone's home and not a traditional hotel or resort. Having said that the staff on site were extremely friendly. The property is stunning and has the potential to be truly top-notch if some small deferred maintenance items in the bungalows are addressed: lights/lamps that don't work or are salt damaged, a confusing number of switches, some that power lights and some that don't, closet safe that doesn't close. I believe we didn't get the full experience because owner Sammy was out of the country. We spoke with him by phone pre/post trip and he seems incredibly friendly and caring about his guests. The trouble is he's the only one on staff that speaks a word of english. Our entire three days we weren't able to properly communicate. Because of this we didn't really have a good handle on what services the property offered, how F&B worked, or even things like how to make dinner reservations in town. I know had Sammy been there it would be have been different. Also be aware they currently only accept paypal and require full payment up front

If you’ve found your way to this property it’s because you’re clearly doing something very right. My wife selected it as the romantic one night anniversary end to a beautiful trip with 30 of our closest friends, but after meeting Sammy and his tremendously loving and caring staff we doubled down and changed our flights to stay another life changing 24 hours! My wife and I have had the great privilege to travel for work and been across Asia, Latin America, Mexico, Ibiza, Tulum etc etc and this truly blew us away. This property is a testament to what patience, a clear vision and a great heart can achieve. From Home Away’s Best Pool of 2016 to the individually appointed bungalows set against a beautiful sound track of waves, you’ll find yourself constantly inspired by the attention to detail taken with every part of the experience provided. Perhaps more than anything though, was the feeling we got from spending time with Sammy and this other delightful couple who were vacationing from London with their baby. Somora wrapped us in a warm blanket of relaxation that was so conducive to sharing inspirational stories about what had all brought us together that we are already planning to come back. I could go on, but until you’ve been here you’ll think I’m just a rambling mess! 10/10 5 Stars

Amalys is a one of a kind stay in Puerto Escondido. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodated our every request, from private massages in the pool cabana, to custom prepared meals by the chef, and helping us arrange transportation back to the airport. The grounds are stunning, with a wide array of local foliage, a breathtaking infinity pool and beautiful sand art. We stayed in Cabana 2, which had a spacious bedroom and bathroom, with beautiful high-vaulted ceilings, a surprisingly effective air conditioner and amazing views of the private beach and stars at night. Amalys is about 20-25 minutes from the Puerto Escondido airport and is located in a private, gated community. We only stayed one night, so were more than happy just relaxing onsite, but if you plan to stay for longer, you’ll likely need to coordinate with staff to arrange for transportation to and from the city center. All billing matters were clearly explained upon check in, and all our meals / drinks and other expenses were accurately tracked, despite the casual environment. In summary, Amalys offered a one of kind experience for our trip in Puerto Escondido. It truly felt like staying in someone’s home, far better than a hotel or even resort. From the stunning grounds to the attentive staff, Amalys provided the perfect environment for a relaxing stay with unrivaled access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. I will certainly be coming back next time I’m in Puerto Escondido.

A beautiful idyllic retreat in a perfectly peaceful location. The staff are attentive and helpful, providing a very personal service. The town centre only 15 mins in a taxi for a surf and then back to peace and quiet. Great place to re-charge. Loved it. Special thanks to Sammy the owner, he was the perfect host.

This is, undeniably, a wonderful and highly esthetic place. We would say, it is even better than it looks in the pictures. Whoever created and manages this resort, must, obviously, be very talented. Neither do we consider ourselves to be hotel testers nor do we, in a frenzy of emotions, consider every other hotel we visit to be the best we have ever stayed at. We travel a lot for pleasure, have traveled to 150 countries. In the midst of the Covid lockdowns alone, we traveled to Maui, California, Bora Bora, the Maldives, Rome, Florence, the Swiss Alps, and many other European destinations. One of the last hotels we stayed at before we came here was the Ritz Paris. What we want to say is that we are not easily impressed. But the esthetics of this place, how every detail was well designed, well maintained and thought through in its practicality, in combination with the beautiful pacific coastline and talented staff, that was in a good mood and allowed to express their personalities, which is not to be taken for granted, impressed us.

Pesimo hotel y servicio.

The place is just beautiful. The people there are extremely kind and helpful. Sammy, the owner, is very nice! Great place to spend a few days, relax and enjoy. The local dog, Dream, is a very friendly host!
