What Guests Say About Their Stay

The front desk clerk was nice and helpful, gave us plenty of tips to do around the city. The room is not the best but for what you pay, it’s definitely worth it. We felt safe the entire time and had plenty of room for three large men to maneuver the room. Across the street is a lovely coffee shop with friendly staff and a great location in the city. The hotel is not far from Centraal station and there is a number of public transports to take you wherever you desire. I highly recommend the Hotel Marnix and would gladly stay there again upon my next visit to Amsterdam. Keep in mind that it is not a 5 star luxury hotel but it is relative affordable, safe, clean, and the people are extremely helpful. You won’t be disappointed.

Hotel location is good. Shower room had damp on the walls. Previous guests had written on the walls in the bathroom. This has never been removed. One message read 'Denzo 2014'! Hotel is noisy. Condition of the hotel seems as if it hadn't been decorated for many years. We were charged before arrival. We expected to pay on arrival. No hot water in wash basin. Condition of carpet on stairs is threadbare. Bed was unstable.

Room 402 was on the 4th floor, no lift/elevator, lots of climbing difficult if you have large luggage. Room felt like a sauna, with recent hot weather, no fan, no air conditioning, one window with a block of wood to keep it open. No breeze came through window which faced the back of another building Window could do with changing Bed/mattress was way to soft felt like I was sinking through the bed. Slow draining sink Doors from other rooms kept slamming loud at all hours of day and night poor sound proof

This hotel would be condemned in any other city. This hotel was one of the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. There was a constant smell of sewer in the room that would not go away. When registering at the front desk, the guy said “no smoking” but I assume our neighbors thought that this did not apply to marijuana since we could smell it in our room. However this did somewhat cover up the sewer smell. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but checked out after surviving only one night. Hotels.com should be ashamed of itself for listing this as a hotel. The only positives were 4 beds (bunk style though), running water, and electricity. I will never use Hotels.com again because of this experience.

Quickly booked this hotel using my phone at the airport when we missed our flight and had to stay over unexpectedly. I need to lose a few pounds, but my single bed's mattress sagged so much it was nearly hitting the floor. Shared bathroom (with guests of 3 other rooms) was downright grimy. The front desk is manned 24-hours and they were pleasant but there were no other amenities to speak of. Our sleep was interrupted all night (Saturday) by people partying both inside and outside the hotel. The noise outside between 2-4 when the clubs closed up was downright deafening. Having said all of that, the neighborhood was quite interesting, and its a short walk to all the central tourist sites. If you are 23, want to party, and can sleep anywhere, this place is for you! But take a wad of cash, because it is expensive!

Personale gentile.

Reception was nice but the rooms need a lot of attention. We didn’t get what we booked. We booked a room with one bunk bed and 2 single beds but ended up with 2 bunk beds. Broken wardrobes with nowhere to hang anything only a couple of shelves for 4 people, really smelly bathroom, broken window that doesn’t lock properly, trunking and wallpaper coming off, gaps round front door where it’s been smashed in previously. I have been coming to Amsterdam for 20 years and this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

We understood we were going for a cheap hotel but there is a big difference between cheap and just filthy. We dreaded having to shower because of the smell and state of the shower, don't even think about using the toilet after 9 pm because as it is a shared bathroom it seemed urine everywhere was the norm. Fantastic location but honestly not worth the awful state of the place. There were roaches in the common area (which luckily I noticed only as we were leaving otherwise I would have panicked and not sleep for days). I think sleeping on a bench outside would have been better. As if all that wasn't bad enough the Wifi didn't work once after 10pm which may not sound like much but given some of us have time difference with home wanting to call at those times was a nightmare. Simply put, stay away.

The location is perfect, and it was the cheapest we could find that still had beds. The beds were two saggy twins touching together. The paint was peeling from the ceiling, and the carpet was old & industrial. The stairs were a fall risk (1/2 the length of my size 42 foot). There was a loud party next door until very late at night. Two thin small towels were provided, along with a bottle of body wash, no soap. This is really a hostel, not a proper hotel. If you want a very cheap room and the only thing you will do is sleep for a few hours at night, this is fine. Wifi only worked 1/2 the time. For anything else, I would spend slightly more and hope to have better luck.
