Scandic Byporten

The family room was small but fine for a quick city break. We really enjoyed the breakfast and the games in reception. My main gripe was the debolical check in process, not sure if they do the same everyday or we just got unlucky. We arrived at the hotel at 12.30, asking to leave bags as we know the check in doesn’t start till 4pm. The staff on the reception were really friendly, checked and said the room wasn’t quite ready but it wouldn’t be too long. We refused waiting and said we would be back later. We returned about 3pm to be met with different staff who categorically told us we could not check in until 4pm. Over the next hour (between 3 and 4pm) I watched about 50 people arrive and be told they couldn’t check in until 4pm. They were encouraged to buy a drink at the bar. In the end we were all held up in the reception with all seats taking and customers getting increasingly frustrated. Of course when the clock hit 4pm everyone raced to the check in desk where only 2 staff attempted to check us all in. I was near the front but I’d imagine the process for those near the back took close to an hour. I’m glad they managed to sell a few drinks at the bar (I’m sure that’s what they were aiming for) but for this reason only I won’t stay here again. It’s a shame because it is a nice hotel but it really got my back up!!

This location of this property was amazing!! We caught a train with all of our luggage 6 minutes after leaving the lobby. My children really loved the moody decor and the in-room bunk beds. The breakfast was probably the best part! It was amazing with a great view!

The hotel is very small, although its just right outside the train station. The blanket has blood stain and it was real disgusting!!

Convenient to everything, especially the train station. Wish they had a few extras in the room, like washcloths, bathmat, robe.

Great staff, cleanliness and breakfast. The only missing was a fridge to keep food and drinks cold, but all in all a great experience.

The location was really nice, as every bus, tram, and subway line is directly downstairs, and anything downtown was very walkable. However, this hotel was loud, both inside and out. It sounded like the room next to us was doing one of those 90s inflatable park things where you wear a velcro suit and run full speed slamming your whole body onto a velcro wall. There's no AC, so when the sun is out your room gets way too hot but your window only opens about an inch. That's enough to let in the full volume of a street performer down in the little plaza, plus a couple of ladybugs. Breakfast was pretty decent, but it was already chaos by 8:30 - there were only two dirty tables available on the 3rd level. We also didn't really care for the bedding situation, with a small mat wrapped in sheets, on top of an uncovered mattress - but maybe that's common in Norwegian hotels and we're just not used to it.

Breakfast was great. Staff were great but the rooms were terribly small. The info online and the pics are deceiving and there’s no space to keep luggage or walk around in the room. So that was really hard and annoying

Great Hotel at Oslo central Station- easy from the airport, easy on the train in am for our adventure- they gave us a breakfast box because we were getting on train early AM

The customer service and staff are good, and the location is great. However, the cleanliness is horrible. When I took a shower, the bathtub became clogged almost immediately after I turned on the water. Since I was already wet, I couldn’t call anyone at the time. I had to remove a large amount of clogged hair, which I believe was left by many previous guests. It was absolutely disgusting, but I had to do it in order to use the shower. I almost threw up. I have pictures of it, but I’d rather not post them here so as not to disgust everyone. I’m very disappointed that a hotel with such a great location would have such a serious cleanliness issue.

GREAT free breakfast. The best breakfast i had. I have travelled everywhere but thus isxthe best yet. Great selections and tasteful.
