The property is by the beach. That being said, there’s a 5-7 minute walk from main street to the actual hotel. The room was spacious, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. There’s a TV, A/C, and good wifi connection in the room that I was in. They also have a clothes rack outside our cottage room in case you have wet clothes from swimming in the pool or the beach. They also offered free kayaks and life jackets. The only con is that the water pressure was pretty weak on both the over head and removable shower head. The staff overall were nice and helpful.

Your Travel Guide to Zamboanguita as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Zamboanguita from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most efficient way to reach Zamboanguita from Manila and other major Philippine cities like Cebu is by air, flying into Dumaguete Airport (DGT). Airlines operate regular flights from Manila to Dumaguete, with travel times typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options are often available. From Dumaguete Airport, Zamboanguita is about a 45-minute to 1-hour drive.

For travelers coming from areas not directly served by flights to Dumaguete, you might need to take a connecting flight via Manila or Cebu. Once you land in Dumaguete, you can hire a taxi to take you directly to Allura Resort Dive and Spa in Zamboanguita. Alternatively, you can take a tricycle or jeepney to the Dumaguete City bus terminal and catch a bus or van heading south towards Bayawan or Siaton, alighting at Zamboanguita town proper. From there, a short tricycle ride will take you to the resort.

Land travel via bus is also an option, though considerably longer. From Manila, you can take an overnight bus to Dumaguete City. This journey can take upwards of 24 hours and involves a ferry crossing. While more time-consuming, it can be a more economical choice for some travelers. Bus fares typically range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500, depending on the bus company and service class. Once in Dumaguete, follow the same steps as mentioned above to reach Zamboanguita.

Best Time to Visit Zamboanguita

The Philippines generally experiences two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. For Zamboanguita and the Negros Oriental region, the dry season, typically from November to May, is considered the best time to visit. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and calmer seas, which are ideal conditions for outdoor activities, diving, and exploring the islands like Apo Island.

The peak tourist season usually falls within the dry months, especially around the Christmas holidays and the Easter break. While the weather is most favorable during this period, expect higher accommodation rates and more crowds at popular attractions. For a more relaxed and potentially cheaper trip, consider visiting during the shoulder months of the dry season, such as November to early December or February to April, outside of major holidays.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy and prolonged. While this period might see fewer tourists and lower prices, travel plans can be disrupted by typhoons or rough seas, particularly affecting boat trips to Apo Island. However, if you are looking for a quieter experience and don't mind occasional rain showers, visiting during the wet season can still be rewarding, provided you stay updated on weather forecasts.

Food and Dining Near Zamboanguita — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Negros Oriental, particularly near Zamboanguita, you'll want to explore the local culinary scene. A must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Freshly caught raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing and zesty dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. You can often find excellent Kinilaw at local eateries and markets, especially near coastal areas.

Another local specialty to look out for is SUTUKIL, a cooking method popular in the Visayas region, which stands for Sugba (grill), Tula (soup), and Kilaw (raw). Many restaurants offer SUTUKIL platters where you can choose your fresh seafood and have it prepared in these three distinct ways. This offers a fantastic way to sample a variety of flavors and textures using the freshest catch of the day, often sourced directly from places like Malatapay Market.

Don't leave the region without trying some local Negros Oriental delicacies. While not a specific dish, the quality of seafood here is exceptional. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are staples and are usually prepared simply to highlight their freshness. Look for restaurants that serve these grilled items with a side of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili for dipping. These simple yet delicious preparations are a highlight for many Filipino travelers.

For those with a sweet tooth, try local Filipino desserts. While specific regional desserts might vary, you can often find popular treats like Halo-Halo, a refreshing mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and ice cream, or various kakanin (rice cakes). These sweet endings are a perfect way to round off a meal and experience the local flavors. Exploring the food scene is an integral part of any Filipino travel experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Zamboanguita

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. In Zamboanguita, you'll find locals to be generally friendly and welcoming. It's customary to show respect, especially to elders. When visiting local communities or markets, dressing modestly is appreciated. Learning a few basic Tagalog or Cebuano phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) can go a long way in fostering positive interactions.

Safety in Zamboanguita is generally good, as it is a relatively peaceful area. However, as with any travel, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places like markets. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. It's also advisable to stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and be mindful of the sun's intensity, particularly during the dry season. For any emergencies, local police assistance can be sought through standard emergency numbers.

For your convenience during your travels, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for finding your way around and estimating travel times. Ride-hailing apps are less common in Zamboanguita compared to major cities, but having a local transport contact number saved is useful. Communication apps like WhatsApp or Messenger are great for staying in touch with family and friends back home.

Additionally, having a currency converter app can be helpful for managing your budget, especially when shopping at local markets or dining out. For booking accommodations and activities, the Traveloka app is your go-to resource, offering a seamless way to manage your bookings and discover new places.

Rooms are spacious and clean, beautiful resort and good food. Hidden fees and expensive amenity prices

Very nice resort, right on the beach right across from Apo Island. The view is lovely and so were the rooms and pool. Very comfortable and pleasant stay. The service was very good and accomodating.
