The room was great and spacious and the view was great even from a city side room. Very accessible from the airport and is surrounded by must-try food places and if you feel lazy going out(which I'll doubt) there's also the in-house restaurants which you can either visit or get room service. PS: the beach was certainly not for swimming. Great sunset views from the Manila Bay guaranteed from the bay side rooms.

Your Travel Guide to Manila as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers, reaching Manila from other parts of the country is quite accessible. Major airlines operate frequent flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from key cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. Travel time is typically between 1 to 2 hours.

Traveling by bus is a more budget-friendly option for those coming from Luzon. Major bus companies offer routes to Manila from provinces like Baguio, Pampanga, and Bicol. Bus fares generally range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, with travel times varying significantly from 4 to 10 hours. These buses usually arrive at various terminals within Metro Manila, from where you can take a taxi or public transport to your accommodation.

Driving to Manila is also an option for those with their own vehicles. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect the capital to various regions. Be prepared for toll fees, which can add up, and consider the potential for heavy traffic, especially as you approach the city center. Planning your route and checking traffic conditions beforehand is highly recommended.

Best Time to Visit Manila

The Philippines experiences a tropical climate, and Manila is no exception. The best time to visit Manila for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity and less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and enjoying its vibrant street life.

The cooler months within the dry season, from December to February, are particularly pleasant, with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius. This period is considered peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for flights and accommodation. If you prefer fewer crowds and slightly warmer weather, the shoulder months of November and March to April are also excellent choices.

Food and Dining Near Manila — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Manila is a culinary playground, offering a diverse range of flavors that reflect its rich history and cultural influences. A must-try for any Filipino traveler is Adobo, the unofficial national dish. Whether it's chicken or pork, slow-cooked in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, its savory and tangy profile is deeply satisfying. You can find excellent versions in traditional eateries and even modern restaurants across the city.

Another iconic dish is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat like pork, beef, or fish, along with an assortment of vegetables. Its comforting, tangy taste is perfect for any weather. For a taste of something sweet and creamy, Halo-Halo is essential. This popular dessert is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream.

Don't leave Manila without trying Lechon, a whole roasted pig known for its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While often a centerpiece for celebrations, you can find delicious lechon portions in specialized restaurants. For a quick and flavorful snack, try Sisig, a sizzling dish made from chopped pork face and ears, seasoned with onions, chili, and calamansi. It's a popular "pulutan" (bar snack) that's also a main course favorite.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Manila

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor, a smile, and respectful language go a long way. It's common to use "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or those in authority as a sign of respect. Understanding basic Filipino greetings like "Magandang umaga" (Good morning) or "Salamat" (Thank you) can also be appreciated.

When it comes to safety in Manila, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and be cautious of petty theft. It's advisable to use reputable transportation services and avoid displaying expensive items openly. In case of emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. Having the contact details of your hotel and local embassy readily available is also a good practice.

To enhance your travel experience in Manila, several apps can be very useful. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient and relatively safe transportation. For navigation, Google Maps is indispensable for finding your way around the city. Food delivery apps can be handy if you prefer to dine in your hotel room. Lastly, a translation app can be helpful if you encounter language barriers, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Was nothing like that last visit in 2017. The elevator didn’t work, so they put us on the 2nd floor. That is not good for a blind 75 year old woman needing assistance. We had to ask for the fridge that was missing from the room to be reinstalled. The room was dusty and not clean and not ready for customers (ie toilet paper, etc) Very disappointed in overall stay.

The elevator was broken. We did not learn pd this issue until check in. I am traveling with my 81 year old mother, who has lung cancer. The hotel originally putbus in a 4th floor room, with a balcony door that did not lock. When I told them my mom couldn't so the staira they put us in a 2nd floor room. Stairs were still difficult for my mom. The front desk staff didnt care, and offered zero refund on our prepay room, evem though we were downgraded. Downgraded room had dirt piled up in the corners. No towels. No water. Broken box springs. This hotel should be embarressed. We did get a $50 coupon from Expedia, to compensate us for our troubles. The only good parts of this hotel were the gard working bell staff, who carried our heavy bags to the 4th floor, and then the 2nd floor. The 1st floor restaurant was also good for Filipino food.

After paying for my room, and given a choice of Large or Two Twin Beds, I choose one Large Bed. After arriving, and seeing the room, I was disappointed, becz no Large bed, just two small ones. When I asked about the bed, I was told it's more money. Humm... There was no safe, so I could not leave any valuables, which was a hassle. The place was clean, but, very dated. The restaurant was way too expensive, @400p for buffet with so little choices. I do not see myself returning... A friend of mine in another room, stated the same thing.

We have always stayed at this hotel and was okay, but this time , i suppose over the years. Nothing has been done, Toilet was blocked, no hot water. Staff not helpful when asking for help bringing bags to reception, had to do this ourselves and after the lift arrived at reception, All the staff were just standing there after 2 seperate attempts to get help, no responce, and we had booked and paid upfront months in advance and upon arrival they did not have the rooms we ordered. This was not acceptable as prior we had highly recommended the hotel and we referred this to our friends and unfortunately we were let down, Lots of other hotels , cheaper and better quality

I've stayed in Aloha Hotel previously because of the fantastic seaview and partial view of Manila Yacht Club. It is also walking distance to Luneta park and Cultural Centre. Happy with the room. The staff is very friendly and helpful and most of all, honest as we left our cell phone in the room when we checked out. We came back after half an hour and staff went back to the room and found the cell phone! Will come back to this hotel on our next holiday and will reccommend to friends.

Our stay was okay. We could walk around the Malate area and easily go to the Malate area. The room was comfortable and we had the city side view. Being on the 6th floor gave us a good view.

The hotel staffs are very pleasant and helpful. However, we were given a room with dirty and smelly bedsheets. The comforter is dirty and the bedsheet has stain of something disgusting. The towels are stained and smelly. The hot shower became too hot for one minute and then cold water came out the rest of the time.
