This hotel was very clean and the staff was very nice. When we checked in they gave us a glass of coconut water. There’s a cute coffee shop and restaurant right next door as well. It’s not too far from the main shopping area. Maybe 5 min walk. We rented a motorbike cause we were lazy. They also had a pool table, fooseball, ping pong, bar, restaurant, and pool on the first floor. It felt very homey. They also had hot shower water that stayed hot. Some hotels lose hot water quick. Every room has a balcony as well. Definitely recommend staying here if you’re on a budget and want a nice and clean place.

Your Travel Guide to Panglao, Panglao Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Panglao, Panglao Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers, the quickest way to reach Panglao, Bohol is by air. Direct flights from Manila (MNL) to Bohol Panglao International Airport (TAG) are frequent. Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate this route, with flight durations typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly, but booking in advance, especially outside of peak seasons, can yield prices ranging from PHP 2,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip.

From other major Philippine cities like Cebu (CEB) or Davao (Davao), you might find connecting flights through Manila, or occasionally direct flights depending on airline schedules. If flying from Cebu, you could also consider a ferry, though this is a much longer journey, taking several hours. For the most convenient travel, it is highly recommended to book flight tickets well in advance to secure better rates and ensure availability.

While flying is the most common method, budget-conscious travelers might explore bus and ferry combinations, though these are significantly more time-consuming. For instance, one could take a bus from Manila to a port city like Batangas or Lucena, then a ferry to a Visayan port, followed by another ferry to Bohol. This multi-leg journey can take over 24 hours and is generally not recommended unless you are on an extended trip and seeking a very low-cost travel experience.

Best Time to Visit Panglao, Panglao Island

Panglao, Panglao Island enjoys a tropical climate year-round, but the best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for beach activities, island hopping, and exploring the natural attractions of Bohol. The peak tourist season falls between December and February, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The shoulder months, such as March to May, offer a great balance of good weather and fewer crowds compared to the Christmas and New Year period. This is an excellent time to enjoy the beaches and water activities without feeling overwhelmed. If you are looking for the absolute best weather with the least chance of rain, aim for the period between March and April.

The wet season, from June to November, brings higher chances of rain, often in the form of short, intense downpours, though extended periods of rain are also possible. While this season might see fewer tourists and lower prices, it can sometimes disrupt outdoor plans. However, for travelers who don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, the wet season can still be a viable option, especially if you plan indoor activities or are flexible with your itinerary.

Food and Dining Near Panglao, Panglao Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Boholano cuisine offers a delightful array of flavors that reflect its coastal location and agricultural richness. When in Panglao, you absolutely must try Kinilaw na Tangigue, a local take on ceviche. Fresh tangigue (mackerel) is marinated in vinegar, calamansi juice, ginger, onions, and chili peppers, offering a zesty and refreshing start to any meal. You can find excellent versions at local eateries along Alona Beach.

Another must-try is Peanut Kisses, a sweet and crunchy delicacy that originates from Bohol. These butterfly-shaped cookies are made from flour, sugar, eggs, and a generous amount of peanuts, baked until crisp. They make for a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) and a delightful snack with a cup of coffee. Look for them in local bakeries and souvenir shops around Panglao.

For seafood lovers, grilled fresh catch is a staple. Many restaurants along the coast offer a selection of fish, squid, and prawns grilled to perfection. Enjoy them with a side of garlic rice and a dipping sauce of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. The simplicity of preparation allows the natural flavors of the seafood to shine through, a true taste of the ocean.

Don't leave Bohol without trying their version of Adobo, often prepared with a slightly different blend of spices or a touch of coconut milk, giving it a unique local twist. Also, explore dishes featuring local produce like cassava and sweet potato, often prepared into delicious desserts or savory snacks. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the Filipino travel experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Panglao, Panglao Island

Filipino culture in Bohol is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a smile go a long way. When it comes to essential apps for your trip, consider downloading ride-hailing apps if available in the area for convenient transport, though tricycles and local taxis are also common.

Lovely clean hotel with large rooms, balconies and aircon.5 minute walk to a lovely sandy beach with plenty of bars and restaurants. Lovely staff at the hotel and the food was of a very high standard. Great pool too. I would definitely stay here again .

Alona Vida has 2 properties, one right on the beach. This one is a bit away but not too far. Rooms were decent size and clean, bathrooms were strictly OK and had a pungent smell. There was a construction right opposite so the noise was quite loud, we struggled to sleep beyond a point and basically spend most of the time outside (though construction may get over soon). Staff was friendly and responsive. Free breakfast which was edible, gave rest of the meals a pass.

It was a very good stay. Value for money. The only thing is the location if travelers don’t mind a bit long walk -15 mins to the beach. Service was excellent

We chose this location because of it's proximity to the beach. We were very pleased with the amenities and the service. The food in the surrounding area was excellent. The property is in new condition and the rooms are very spacious and clean. This was a great find and would recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy Alona Beach.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was clean and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was very good in my opinion. The only drawback is that it is about a 10-15 min walk from the beach, but I was not able to book a place closer to the beach, so that is why I booked here. It is near all the shops and services on the main road which is convenient.

Room are very good size next to pool. Pool is well maintained only issue is WiFi, it’s very slow only able to use without freezing is late night to early morning. It definitely needs updating.
