The rooms was exceptionally clean, bed was comfortable and not a lot of noise as expected in the area due to the heavy traffic and night life of the clubs around. It’s only one block from the main Robinson’s Place Mall entrance. Will be back.

Your Travel Guide to Manila as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common and efficient method. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate numerous daily flights from key cities such as Cebu, Davao, and Palawan. Fares can range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets.

If you prefer land travel, bus services are available from various provincial hubs to Metro Manila's major terminals like Cubao or Pasay. For example, a bus trip from Baguio City can take approximately 4-6 hours and typically costs between PHP 500 to PHP 800. This option is more budget-friendly for those coming from Luzon and offers a chance to see more of the countryside.

Driving to Manila is also an option for those coming from nearby provinces in Luzon. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to the city. Toll fees can add up, so factor this into your budget, with costs varying based on your starting point and the specific routes taken.

Best Time to Visit Manila

The ideal time to visit Manila for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it perfect for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and enjoying its vibrant street life. Temperatures are generally warm, averaging around 28-32 degrees Celsius.

The cooler months between December and February are particularly pleasant, offering slightly lower humidity and more comfortable temperatures for walking around. However, this period also coincides with the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. Booking your hotel in advance is highly recommended during these months.

The wet season, from May to October, brings frequent rain showers, sometimes heavy and prolonged. While this might deter some outdoor activities, it also means fewer tourists and lower prices for flights and hotels, making it a good time for budget-conscious travelers who don't mind occasional downpours. You can still enjoy many indoor attractions and cultural sites during this period.

Food and Dining Near Manila — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Manila is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households. You can find excellent versions in traditional eateries and even in more upscale restaurants around Malate.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, most commonly with pork, beef, or seafood, and flavored with tamarind. Its distinct sourness is incredibly comforting, especially on a cooler evening. Many local carinderias and restaurants near Amelie Hotel Manila will offer this hearty soup.

For a taste of something sweet and refreshing, Halo-Halo is the ultimate Filipino dessert. This popular treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down after a day of exploring Manila's bustling streets.

Don't forget to sample Lechon, a whole roasted pig with incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While a whole lechon is often for celebrations, many restaurants offer lechon kawali (fried pork belly) or lechon paksiw (pork stewed in liver sauce) as delicious alternatives. These dishes showcase the Filipino love for rich, flavorful pork.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Manila

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and warmth. A simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or those in authority shows respect. When visiting churches or people's homes, dress modestly. It's also common to be invited for meals, and accepting graciously is part of the cultural experience.

When it comes to safety, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. For emergencies, remember that the national emergency number is 911.

For seamless travel, download essential apps. Grab is indispensable for ride-hailing and food delivery, making transportation and dining convenient. Google Maps is crucial for navigation, helping you find your way around the city. GCash or Maya are useful for mobile payments, simplifying transactions for many services and purchases.

Consider downloading a translation app if you plan to interact extensively with locals who may not speak English fluently, although English is widely understood in Manila. Having these tools readily available on your smartphone will significantly enhance your travel experience and help you navigate Manila with greater ease and confidence.

The room itself looks fine, mostly clean, staff was friendly. The room is very big which is nice. The restaurant in the first floor is really good! If you like spicy there's a very spicy pepper popper that is very good. Now for the not so good. We had an odd number room facing the street and 2am it was still SO SO SO SO SO loud! Music, partying, people, we were on the 5th floor and could hear it clear as day! Our friends that had the back of the hotel faced a temple and was nice and quiet all night! Overall, fine stay for a 1 night on our way home, if we had to stay more than 1 night we would have requested a new room not facing the street.

This was a tough one so I will play it out in much detail as I don’t think people explained it properly in other reviews. We were here for two nights and my parents were here for 4. Robinsons hotel is very close, the breakfast buffet is pretty decent including eggs made fresh to your liking. This is a block from Korea town so we had some great Korean food. But also lots of locals so which can be a bit intimidating for your first time in Manila. The weekends there is live music until 5 so if you are at the front of the hotel you can hear it loud. The rooms are dated but fairly clean. We had no hot water. But our parents on a lower floor had some. And had to fight to get more toilet paper. Maids only come for a fee. Beds were nice a clean but we did find a clump of hair in the sheets. All in all the price is very cheap and super close to the airport. On the Monday the whole area was much more chill and totally different vibe where I thought I could hang out here. Lots of close bars. If you were staying for a night or two not on a weekend I would consider again but otherwise keep looking

Staff open and tried to get inside our room at 12:30am. We travelled from US and 12 hours is the time difference. We were shocked and scared. My husband has opened surgery 5 years ago. It was hard to get him to calmed down. I was afraid he might had a stroke. Thank God he was fine. The front desk said the staff delivering extra towels to the wrong room. My friend who also had experience of knocking at their door around 6am and it’s still dark outside. They didn’t try to find out the reason but also complained. Hope this doesn’t happen to you all. It was hard get back to sleep and almost ruined our vacation.

Stay away from Amelie! Rooms are old, smelly, and filthy - found several bugs crawling around on the sheets. There's a sign when you come in discouraging using massage oils on the sheets when you have guests come in, so that should tell you about the typical clientele. The walls are paper thin, and you can hear drunk people coming in and out throughout the evening. Finally, staff is super rude - made a big fuss over a 1000 PHP cash deposit, and refused to let me leave until they did a thorough inspection of the room (despite my protests to just keep the deposit and let me leave to catch my flight on time). They even had security block my Grab from leaving - are you really going to go through all that fuss for 1000 PHP? Never coming back.

It was a nice hotel in manila. 24 front desk is very convenient for international arrivals as not sure about exact time when u can check in. As my flight schedule was delayed one day. It was a little bit different using swipe card for elevator. the staff was very helpful to teach me how to use the elevator. Very high-tech and secure in my opinion. Staff very helpful. The restaurant/cafe food tasted good. I enjoyed my stay there even though only 1 night.

Meh. For the price, sure. Why not? Great American breakfast, though (from the menu, NOT the buffet)!

The rooms was exceptionally clean, bed was comfortable and not a lot of noise as expected in the area due to the heavy traffic and night life of the clubs around. It’s only one block from the main Robinson’s Place Mall entrance. Will be back.

初めての利用で2泊した。スタッフの対応、セパレートエアコンなど部屋はまずまずですが、バスタブが無くシャワーのみが残念でした。バイキング朝食は300ペソで十分満足できる。ロビンソンのすぐ近くは便利。
