The beach resort is great, it was a perfect view for relaxation where you can watch the ocean at its true beauty with its color and sound waves. No wonder why a lot of tourists, especially foreigners, go there because of its spectacular view right in front of the beach.

Location and How to Get to Avila's Horizon Dive Resort

Address and Getting There

Avila's Horizon Dive Resort is situated at Malapascua Island, Sitio Logon, Malapascua Island, Daanbantayan, Cebu, Philippines, 6013. This address places you directly on Malapascua Island, a destination that requires a bit of planning to reach but rewards visitors with its stunning natural beauty and relaxed island vibe. The neighborhood of Sitio Logon is known for being near recreation spots, suggesting that you'll be in an area where island activities are readily accessible.

Unlike the busy streets of a large city, Malapascua offers a more tranquil environment, characterized by sandy paths, local homes, and the ever-present sound of the ocean.

Reaching Malapascua Island typically involves a journey to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB), which serves as the primary gateway for most international and domestic flights into Cebu. From the airport, you will need to travel north to Maya Port in Daanbantayan. This leg of the journey can be undertaken via taxi, ride-sharing services, or a pre-booked van.

The drive from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to Maya Port is approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic conditions, especially if you are traveling during peak hours in Cebu City. The cost for this land transfer can range from PHP 2,500 to PHP 4,000 for a private van, or less if you opt for public buses and jeepneys, though this will significantly increase travel time.

For travelers looking to streamline their journey, booking a book flight to Cebu is the first crucial step.

Once you arrive at Maya Port, you will then take a public or private boat to Malapascua Island. Boat trips typically run from early morning until late afternoon. The boat ride itself takes about 30 to 45 minutes, offering scenic views of the surrounding turquoise waters. The cost for a public boat is usually around PHP 100-200 per person, while a private boat charter will be more expensive, likely in the range of PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500.

Upon arrival at Malapascua Island, Avila's Horizon Dive Resort is located in Sitio Logon. Depending on the exact drop-off point and the resort's proximity, you might be able to walk or take a short tricycle ride to reach your accommodation. The island is small enough that getting around is generally straightforward, with tricycles being the primary mode of transport for longer distances within the island.

Your Travel Guide to Daanbantayan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Daanbantayan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers originating from Manila, the most efficient way to reach Daanbantayan is by air. You'll need to book a book flight to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Several airlines, including Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia, operate frequent flights from Manila (MNL) to Cebu (CEB). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but expect to pay anywhere from approximately PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip if booked in advance during off-peak times. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, you will then proceed to Maya Port in Daanbantayan.

From Cebu City, you have a couple of options to reach Maya Port. The most direct and comfortable method is to hire a private van or taxi. This journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, covering a distance of about 120-130 kilometers. The cost for a private van can range from PHP 2,500 to PHP 4,000.

Alternatively, for a more budget-friendly option, you can take a public bus from the Cebu North Bus Terminal to Kawit, Daanbantayan, which is near Maya Port. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey typically takes 4 to 5 hours. Bus fares are considerably lower, usually ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 500 for a one-way ticket.

If you are traveling from other major Philippine cities like Davao or Cagayan de Oro, your primary route will also involve flying into Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). From these cities, flights to Cebu are readily available. Once you land in Cebu, you would then follow the same land and sea transfer procedures as described for travelers coming from Manila or within Cebu to reach Maya Port and subsequently Malapascua Island.

Planning your connections carefully, especially the transfer from the airport to Maya Port, is key to a smooth journey to Daanbantayan and its surrounding islands.

Best Time to Visit Daanbantayan

The climate in Daanbantayan, like much of the Philippines, is tropical, characterized by two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season generally runs from December to May, offering the most favorable conditions for outdoor activities and beach enjoyment. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and calmer seas, making it ideal for diving, snorkeling, and island hopping.

The peak tourist season typically falls within the dry months, particularly from December to February, when many Filipinos and international visitors flock to the islands for holidays.

The wet season, from June to November, brings with it increased rainfall and a higher chance of typhoons, especially during the months of August to October. While this period might see fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, the weather can be unpredictable. However, even during the wet season, rain showers are often brief, and there can still be plenty of sunshine.

For travelers who prefer a more laid-back atmosphere and are less concerned about potential weather disruptions, visiting during the shoulder months of the wet season, such as June or November, can offer a good balance of decent weather and fewer tourists. Ultimately, the best time to visit Daanbantayan depends on your priorities, whether it's guaranteed sunshine or a more tranquil experience.

Food and Dining Near Daanbantayan — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Visayas is complete without indulging in fresh seafood, and Daanbantayan, being a coastal municipality, offers an abundance of it. Grilled fish, such as lapu-lapu or tanigue, is a staple. Prepared simply with salt and perhaps a squeeze of calamansi, then grilled over charcoal, the natural flavors of the fish shine through. You'll find this dish readily available in local eateries and carinderias.

Look for places near the fish market in Daanbantayan town proper for the freshest catch.

Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, is another must-try. Fresh, raw fish (often tuna or mackerel) is "cooked" in vinegar, typically spiced with ginger, onions, chili peppers, and sometimes coconut milk for a creamy twist. The tangy, spicy, and refreshing flavors are perfect for the tropical climate. Many local restaurants and even some resorts will offer their own take on kinilaw, so feel free to ask for recommendations.

For a taste of local comfort food, try Pork Sinigang. This sour and savory soup, made with tamarind broth, is a beloved Filipino dish. The tender pork and fresh vegetables like kangkong, tomatoes, and radishes make it a hearty and satisfying meal, especially after a day of exploring. While sinigang is found all over the Philippines, the local variations in Cebu might offer a unique regional flavor profile.

Another local delicacy worth seeking out is Budbod. This is a sweet sticky rice dessert, often flavored with chocolate or pandan, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed. It's a popular breakfast item or snack, offering a sweet counterpoint to savory meals. You can often find vendors selling budbod in local markets or along the streets in the early mornings.

Finally, don't leave without trying some local delicacies from the markets. These might include various types of puto (steamed rice cakes) or bibingka (a baked rice cake cooked in clay pots). These sweet treats are perfect for a quick snack or dessert and offer a genuine taste of Filipino culinary traditions. Exploring the local markets in Daanbantayan town or near the ports is the best way to discover these authentic flavors.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Daanbantayan

The people of Daanbantayan and Malapascua Island are known for their warm hospitality and friendly demeanor. While English is widely understood, especially in tourist areas, learning a few basic Cebuano phrases like "Salamat" (Thank you) and "Maayong adlaw" (Good day) can be greatly appreciated by locals. Respect for elders and local customs is important; always greet people politely and dress modestly when visiting local villages or religious sites.

The island culture is generally relaxed, so embracing a slower pace of life will enhance your experience.

Safety in Daanbantayan and Malapascua is generally good, with petty theft being the most common concern, as in many tourist destinations. It's always wise to keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or at night. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit places. For any emergencies, the local police can be reached at 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers for your resort and any tour operators readily available.

The island environment is relatively safe, but common sense precautions should always be observed.

For essential travel apps, consider downloading a reliable currency converter app, as you'll be dealing with the Philippine Peso (PHP). A good offline map application, such as Google Maps with downloaded offline areas, can be invaluable for navigating the island, especially if mobile data is spotty. For communication, apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used for staying in touch with family and friends.

Lastly, having the Traveloka app on your phone is crucial for managing your bookings, checking flight statuses, and discovering local attractions and dining options.

The beach resort is great, it was a perfect view for relaxation where you can watch the ocean at its true beauty with its color and sound waves. No wonder why a lot of tourists, especially foreigners, go there because of its spectacular view right in front of the beach.

The only resort in the northside, beachfront is way better compared to Bounty Beach. The staff were courteous and accommodating. I do not recommend the food though, it was below average and pricey, I suggest you go to the"market"(food stalls near the bounty beach) for good food and reasonable prices, The Italian restaurant in the Island called Angelina 's is worth a try, yummy pizza and pasta, it is also nearby a cove with a beautiful sunset view (secret place).

Though they were not able to receive any notification from the app, they were able to accommodate us without any hassle. Good customer service. It should be better if there is a wifi connection since the area has no globe signal.

Accommodation and very hospitable staffs. Very quite place suitable for barkadas who don't want a lot of people passing by. Nearby locals are accommodating as well. Foods are superb. Will recommend to my friends and colleagues. Good job!

Staffs were very accommodating! Perfect resort to stay in Malapascua. It ‘s near in “my tablea cafe”- my favorite place to eat.

The location was good but the service isn’t good. They were racists. Unsatisfying.
