I highly recommend this place especially if you are looking for American standard hotel. The room can be compared to Marriott but better with a nice view and balcony. It’s very comfortable, clean and smells great. Wi fi is a little bit slow but it’s normal in this island. I highly praise the staff. They are friendly, approachable and listen to our needs. Btw, they do not have an elevator. Something to consider if you have someone that needs elevator. However, the staff are very helpful to assist you with your luggage. The place is very quiet. There’s a restaurant next to the hotel selling Filipino, Japanese, Korean etc food and a convenience store that sells American and korean drinks and snacks. I highly recommend this place and for sure I will book again in my next visit.

Your Travel Guide to Boac as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boac from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Boac, Marinduque from Metro Manila and other major Philippine cities offers several options, catering to different preferences and budgets. For those prioritizing speed, book flight directly to Marinduque Airport (MRQ) is the most efficient method. Flights typically range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 6,000, depending on the airline and booking time, with a flight duration of about 45 minutes to an hour. This is ideal for travelers looking to maximize their time on the island.

A more economical route involves a bus journey from Metro Manila (e.g., Cubao or Pasay terminals) to Lucena City Grand Terminal. Bus fares usually fall between PHP 300 to PHP 500, and the trip takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. From Lucena, you will then take a bus or van to a ferry terminal like Dalahican, where you can catch a ferry to Marinduque. Ferry tickets can cost around PHP 300 to PHP 500, with the sea crossing taking about 3 to 5 hours, depending on the vessel and sea conditions.

For those who enjoy road trips, driving from Manila to Marinduque is also feasible. The route involves taking the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Pan-Philippine Highway towards Lucena City. From Lucena, you would proceed to a ferry terminal that serves Marinduque. This option offers flexibility but requires navigating longer travel times and potential toll fees, which can add up to PHP 500-800 for the round trip.

Best Time to Visit Boac

The ideal time to visit Boac and the rest of Marinduque largely depends on your preference for weather and crowd levels. The dry season, from November to May, generally offers the most favorable weather conditions with sunny skies and lower chances of rain, making it perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the island's beaches and natural attractions. Peak tourist season often falls during the Holy Week, when Marinduque is famous for its Lenten traditions, particularly the Moriones Festival.

If you prefer to avoid the largest crowds and potentially find better rates on accommodation and transport, consider visiting during the shoulder months of the dry season, such as November to February, or late April to May. The wet season, from June to October, sees more rainfall, which can sometimes disrupt travel plans or limit outdoor activities. However, this period also offers a more tranquil experience and lush, green landscapes.

Food and Dining Near Boac — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Marinduque's culinary scene offers a delightful array of flavors that reflect its island heritage. A must-try is the **Ubod** (heart of palm) dishes, particularly **Sinigang na Ubod**, a sour and savory soup that showcases the freshness of local ingredients. You can find this comforting dish in many local eateries and restaurants in Boac, offering a taste of authentic Marinduque cuisine.

Another local specialty is **Maniw**, a type of seaweed salad often served with a vinaigrette dressing. It’s a refreshing appetizer that highlights the island's coastal bounty. For those with a sweet tooth, **Ubod Roll** is a popular dessert, a sweet treat made from processed heart of palm, often enjoyed as a snack or pasalubong.

Don't leave Marinduque without trying **La Paz Batchoy**, a hearty noodle soup that is a favorite among locals. While variations exist across the Philippines, Marinduque's version often has its unique local twist. Exploring the local markets and smaller carinderias in Boac will lead you to these authentic flavors, providing a true taste of the island's culinary traditions.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boac

Marinduqueños are known for their hospitality and strong sense of community. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting and a respectful demeanor go a long way. The province is particularly famous for its Lenten traditions, especially the Moriones Festival, where locals don elaborate costumes and masks to portray Roman soldiers. Understanding and respecting these cultural practices is key to a meaningful visit.

For safety, Marinduque is generally considered a safe province for tourists. However, as with any travel, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or when traveling at night. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying excessive wealth. In case of emergencies, local police and medical services are available. It's useful to have the contact numbers for local authorities handy.

I liked the location. BOAC was at the center of the west side of Marinduque. Given the distance to the tourist spots, we concentrated our tours on the western side of the province. I liked that the staff was very friendly, helpful and always smiling....the charm of Marinduque. Several things worth noting ... the standard room's toilet and bath was too small and cramped. There was no place to hang clothes and to place toiletries bec even the toilet paper was not hanged, took space and was on top of the counter in a woven container. The shower water was weak so took long to wash my hair. and the shower tiles were slippery needing the rubber mat to be used... which I am not used to using given it hurts the soles of the feet. There was also no intercom in the room. the only way to communicate with the front desk was thru their mobile number.

Exceeded our expectations. The place is very homey. We rented the family room and its huge, the only thing missing is a shower curtain or divider from the toilet to the shower area from one of the bathroom because there’s 2 which is really great for a family room. But that’s just a small matter… everything else is perfect. Breakfast is excellent as well.

Great stay with the cafe and restaurant in the vicinity didn’t hade the chance to see the beach because we used it as a base to relax before heading to the main destination. The hotel crew and staff was superb and did an excellent job. The personal at the restaurant where we have dinner needs more training in hospitality and service but it’s a minor thing maybe just 1-2 personal out of the 10 that we interacted with.

Bathroom flood every time we took shower. Front desk manager doesn’t know how to handle the customer concern. The room don’t have closet or drawer even place to store clothes and belonging. AC not enough to cool the room plus no Wi-Fi and no internet signal.
